The Guillermo "Willy" González digital collection contains photographs and slides from Cuban engineer Guillermo González (1932-2013). González was an avid traveler and passionate photographer, and his images document life in Cuba, as well as Mexico and Florida. He frequently presented images from his extensive slide collection at the Coral Gables book store Books and Books.
Many of the images document the Cuban landscape, reflecting González’s engineering background, and include public buildings, monuments, statues, historic sites, public spaces, streets, parks, plazas, cemeteries, stadiums, colleges, and natural landscapes.
In addition, González collected images of actors, actresses, dancers, singers, sports personalities, and every day people. The collection also features 1950s advertisements for department stores, clothing, food, travel, and hotels, as well as personal photographs of González and his wife, including their honeymoon in Mexico in 1959.
Selected materials from the collection have been digitized and are available online. Additional materials from the collection are available for research upon request at the University of Miami Libraries Cuban Heritage Collection. A full description and list of all materials in this collection are available in the Guillermo "Willy" González Collection finding aid.
