08:50 Elsa remembers her parents struggling with the decision of whether or not to leave Cuba ; her mother was very close to her extended family and did not want to leave them and her father , felt very Cuban and did not want to leave his country . 13:50 Elsa remembers that even in he car on the way over to the airport in Varadero , where they would take a plane to the United States , his parents kept hesitating and asking themselves if they were asking the right decision . She remembers her father turned to her (who was 12 years old at that time) and asking her what she thought they should do . 18:00 The sisters talk about the many jobs their parents had to take on in Maryland in order to support the family 29:00 The sisters remember their mother as Eliana’s best friend , a loving mother , and a beauty queen with jet black hair and gorgeous legs . Their father was handsome and wise , a singer and a poet . 33:00 Eliana talks about the story of how her parents met . Her father was at his store , with the blinds half-closed and catching a glimpse of their mothers legs confused her with one of his co-workers . Their mother corrected him with sass and attitude and caught his attention .
