04:09 Sergio met Patricia’s mother when his future father in-law invited him to his daughter’s quinceañera celebration. He remembers thinking she was a bit snobby because she paid little attention to him at the party, she was beautiful, intelligent, nice. He was a regular 17-year-old full of insecurities. 09:25 After that they started going to dances together and he would try to hold her hand on several occasions, but she would not let him, “who do you think you are?” Later on, when they were officially boyfriend and girlfriend she had a similar reaction when he would try to kiss her. 14:45 Sergio talks about how he proposed to her by hiding a ring in a bowl of candies and offering some to her, knowing she would eat many. He proposed knowing that they would be apart for a while since each of them was making plans to leave the island, her, to the United States, him to Puerto Rico, via Spain. 24:05 Sergio talks about the long-distance relationship and he would send letters in batches because postage was expensive, He felt confident she was the only other person for him in his life and that neither of them would find someone else. They had a rule that when they went out (to dances) neither of them could dance more than two dances with the same girl or guy. 40:00 Sergio talks about her wife’s name, Eulalia María. He describes her as a wonderful person, and talks about their first kiss. |
