GROUND RADIO BULLETIN NO. 17 - October 31, 1949 COMMS. DEPT. L.A.D.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
The following is quoted from the Airways Department Manual, Section 300-50,
Page 3, dated September 13, 1949:
“The supplying of extinguishers using a dry chemical agent to line stations has been discontinued until the mechanical difficulties with the extinguishers can be corrected. Units already supplied are to be kept in service. Maintenance instructions can still be found in Section 300-7 of the General Maintenance Manual.“
Since it appears that the discontinuance of the Ansull Dry Chemical extinguishers may be temporary only, the Ground Radio Maintenance Manual will not be revised in this respect until definite information is received concerning future use of this type extinguisher.
Pressure cylinders and powder refills for any Ansul units on hand will be supplied as usual.
Any requisitions for new fire extinguishers, when justified, should be for the following units as far as communications is concerned until further notice:
Carbon Dioxide, 2 pounds 645-21452
Carbon Dioxide, 4 pounds 645-992000
Carbon Dioxide, 15 pounds 645-981283
NC-240 RECEIVER
When the NC-240 receiver is prepared for shipment, the coil catacomb is moved to the extreme right side of the chassis (looking at the receiver from the front) and anchored in this position by means of a 10/32 machine screw from the outside of the cabinet through the chassis and into a threaded hole existing in the catacomb itself.
The Ground Radio Shop reports several incidents of this 10/32 screw being so long that it passes on inside the catacomb until it hits one of the coils, resulting in damage to the coil winding.
The purpose of this 10/32 screw is to prevent the catacomb from shifting when the receiver is subjected to jarring in shipment and the length of the screw should never exceed 3/8“ to avoid coil damage.
