Weyher is a member of the Board of Regents' Committee on Articulation between Senior and Junior Colleges in Engineering, which met recently in Tampa... DR. LEIGH HEADS Dr. W. Henry Leigh, professor and BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT chairman of zoology, will become chairman of the new department of biology on June 1, Dean E. Morton Miller has announced. The new department is the result of a fusion of the departments of botany and zoology. Present students in both disciplines will not have their programs interrupted or distorted and alternative routes will exist for several years, Dean Miller explained. Although a core program in biology is under development, students will have the option of concentrating in either area. Dr. Taylor R. Alexander, botany chairman, will increase his research activity and become a consultant in botanical activities and courses in the biology department. READING ROOM That “reading room underneath NAMED FOR SAX Beaumont Lecture Hall" now boasts a name: the George Sax Reading Room. The favorite haven of the harried student was named in honor of the man who volunteered his assistance to President Ashe in 1946 when the community drive for the Memorial Classroom Building was experiencing a slow start. Mr. Sax sparked the campaign with his personal gift of $15,000, inspired other community leaders to support the drive to its successful conclusion. While on campus for the plaque presentation, with Mrs. Sax and their son Edward, a former UM student, Sax presented President Stanford with yet another gift to establish the Rhoda and George Sax Fund. It will be used for future endowment of a scholarship or other purposes. CITIZENS BOARD STARTS President Stanford will be principal GADP DRIVE, MARCH 9 speaker at the March 9 kickoff meeting of leaders of the Citizens Board corporate solicitation program scheduled for the month of March. The group will gather at the Everglades Hotel from 4 to 6 p.m. to map final plans for their drive for $3.8 million. The goal is some 10 per cent of the $36 million needed to construct science and medical facilities scheduled for the first five years of the 10-year Golden Anniversary Development Program. Vice President—Eugene E. Cohen is attending the annual briefing for members of the Oak Ridge Institute for Nuclear Studies at the Tennessee facility... Dr. Marshall Jones, psychology, gave a colloquium on “Explorations into the Psychometric Potential of the Rorschach" at the University of Florida... Roy J. Johnston, communications services, traveled to Boston at the invitation of the Lowell Institute Cooperative Broadcasting Council, John F. Kennedy Memorial Library and Harvard Auditorium to explain LIRC procedures... Dr. J. Riis Owre has been invited to read a paper and join the American delegation to the International Association of Hispanists second world meeting in Ni jmagen, Holland, this summer... Dr. Joseph J. Moder. industrial engineering, discusses “Quantitative Analysis of Factors Affecting Floor Space Utilization of Palletized Storage in the current Journal of Industrial Engineering... Dr. J. Everett Rover, accounting, was one of a half dozen academicians chosen to attend a Prentice-Hall tax publications seminar... The research of Dr. Aaron Lipman, sociology, on retirees was the subject of recent articles in Geriatric Focus and by the science staff of the North American Newspaper Alliance... Drive chairman W. Sloan McCrea, Board director and UM trustee, has named 20 Board members to work as corporate team captains in the campaign for support from some 500 major firms in the Greater Miami area.
