SPEAKING OF PEOPLE THE BI-WEEKLY NEWS LETTER r For Faculty and Staff Voi. 9, No. 10 February 3, 1969 NEW MEMBERS NAMED TO Seven new members of the Board of BOARD OF TRUSTEES Trustees — five regular and two alumni — were announced by President Stanford following the annual election meeting January 24. New regular trustees are Edward C. Fogg III, president of Farm Stores, Inc., Land o'Sun Investment Co. and Land o'Sun Groves, Inc., Miami; Samuel L. Higginbottom, vice president of the Operations Group, Eastern Air Lines, Miami; George W. Jenkins, president, Publix Super Markets, Inc., Lakeland; Cliff W. Peery, president, Gulf Oil Company —Latin America, Coral Gables; and Mrs. Myron (Marilyn) Segal of Hollywood, Fla. Alumni trustees, elected by vote of the General Alumni Association and approved by the board, are Dante Fascell, U.S. Congressman from Florida, and Charles H. Gautier, Miami attorney. Two men whose terms as alumni trustees expire this year were reelected to the board as regular trustees for three-year terms: Edward F. Dunn and Patrick J. Cesarano. Five trustees were also reelected as regular trustees for five-year terms: Thomas F. Fleming, Jr., William Arnold Hanger, Edgar B. Lau, Wilbur L. Morrison and James A. Ryder. Messrs. Fogg, Jenkins and Peery were elected for three-year terms to fill vacancies created by the retirement from the board of four trustees who will become trustees emeriti; Sam Blank, who has served since 1950; E. L. Cotton, Sr., since 1959; J. Neville McArthur, board member since 1955, and George B. Storer, member since 1960. Mr. Higginbottom will complete the unexpired term created by the resignation of Floyd Hall, chairman and chief executive of Eastern Air Lines, while Mrs. Segal will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Thomas Mann, president of the American Automobile Association. In other action, the board reelected Oscar E. Dooly as chairman and Harry Hood Bassett as vice chairman. All officers of the university were also reelected. Active membership on the Board of Trustees now numbers 38 regular trustees and six alumni trustees. DR. JOSEPH M. JONES. JR. Dr. Joseph Marion Jones, Jr., dis-JOINS CENTER AT UM tinguished author, foreign policy con- sultant and educator, has joined the 1 ¿nter for Advanced International Studies as visiting professor and senior research scientist. Dr. Jones will conduct a graduate seminar on the problems involved in the formation of U.S. foreign policies during the post-war period and will also have an important role in Center research involving the relationship between advanced technology and the international interests and purposes of the U.S. W. A. D. Anderson, chairman, pathology, and director of laboratories, JMH, was named Chairman of the American Joint Committee on Cancer and End Results Reporting at its meeting in Chicago January 10... “Insect Cells: Their Structure and Function,'* by Dr. David S. Smith, medicine and biology, has been published by Oliver & Boyd, Edinburgh, Scotland. Distributor in the U.S. is W. A. Benjamin, Inc., 2 Park Ave., New York City, N.Y. Dr. Smith is editor of the journal Tissue and Cell, also published in Edinburgh... Boris DuPont Paul, art, and Lowe Art Museum curator, delivered a lecture, “Israeli Art Today," illustrating it with original paintings from his art collection, at Temple Sinai of North Dade January 15... An article, “Dyslexia, An Educator's View," by Dr. Philip H. Mann, special education, appeared in Vol. 56, No. 1, January 1969 issue of The Journal of the Florida Medical Association... An article, “The European World of Alvan Stewart, 1831" by Dr. Duane Koenig, history, appeared in the January 1969 SOCIAL STUDIES magazine, pp. 23-33. Dr. Koenig has been appointed to the publications committee of the American-Italian Historical Society... Dr. Archie L. McNeal. director of libraries, attended the midwinter meeting of American Library Association in Washington as second vice president. He was also chosen “Citizen of the Day" by Station WFUN in recognition of being elected chairman of the Florida Library and Historical Commission...
