This summer he was admitted to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court... UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI Office of Public Information OPPENHEIMER JOINS Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, director SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, has accepted a place on the Scientific Council of UM’s Center for Theoretical Studies. Dr. Behram Kursunoglu, director of the Center and chairman of the Council, also reported that three new UM members of the Scientific Council are Dr. Sidney W. Fox, biochemist and director, Institute of Molecular Evolution; Dr. Fritz F. Koczy, chairman, Division of Physical Sciences at the Institute of Marine Science; and Dr. Morris Rockstein, physiology, School of Medicine. Other members of the Scientific Council are Dr. Gerson Gold-haber, physics, University of California; Dr. Morton Hamermesh, physics chairman, University of Minnesota; Dr. Robert E. Marshak, physics and astronomy, University of Rochester; Dr. YoichiroNambu, physics, University of Chicago; and Dr. Julian S. Schwinger, physics, Harvard University. Dr. Armin H. Gropp, UM vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculties, is a member ex officio; and Dr. Eugene H. Man, UM coordinator of research, is a member and executive secretary. Dr. Arnold Perlmutter, physics, is secretary of the Center. The Scientific Council will meet on the campus Jan. 18 to discuss general principles and perspectives of the Center, and the third annual High Energy Physics Conference of the Center will meet here Jan. 19-21. Elected to his third term as a trustee of the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, is Dr. Charles B. Metz, molecular evolution... Profs. Branch. Sampson and Sweet, architectural engineering, attended a conference for qualified instructors of fallout shelter analysis at the Office of Civil Defense, Washington, D.C... Dr. Aaron Llpman. sociology, spoke at a summer special conference for the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nursing at the Americana Hotel. He also attended a conference on aging at the University of Michigan... and delivered a paper at the Chicago meeting of the American Sociology Association... Dr. J. Everett Rover, accounting, recently addressed the Florida Chapter of the American Association of Hospital Accountants on “Cost Finding - Specific Application Worked in with Flexible Budget"... Dr. Howard M. Lenoff. biochemistry, was the first speaker in the Biology Department seminar series... Dr. Gerald G. Govorchin’s search for material about Peter the Great took him this past summer to the British Museum and the State University of Kazakhstan, Siberia... Marshall Jones, psychology, has been appointed by the Governor as a member of the Florida State Board of Examiners in Psychology, and attended the Tallahassee meeting on September 25 and 26. FIVE APPOINTED TO Five prominent citizens have accept- ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE ed appointments to the executive council of the University’s endowment committee. The voluntary committee was established by the development office to interest individuals in establishing endowment funds for scholarships, professorships and other academic needs. Members of i council are: Baron de Hirsch Meyer, chairman; Bill Colson, vice chairman for the lawyers alumni division; H. P. Forrest, vice chairman, non-alumni lawyers division; Dennis P.
