He is presenting a paper, “Recent Developments in the Application of the Fabry-Perot to Plasma Spectroscopy,’’ at the International Conference on New Methods of Instrumental Spectroscopy, and May 2-7 will attend CI07, the Seventh Congress on Recent Progress in Physical Optics... Two members of the University family have been promoted from commander to captain in the UJS. Naval Reserve. They are Dr. Alfred P. Mills, chemistry, director Reserve Officers of the Naval school on campus, and Dr. M. Robert Allen. Dean of the Division of Continuing Education, commander of the Advanced Base Logistics Command Division 6-1 of Miami... Dr. William C. Knopf. Dean of the School of Engineering, spoke to the annual meeting of the Southern Electrical Exchange at New Orleans... Dr. J. Riis Owre. associate dean of the faculties, has been invited to be a member of the committee to select recipients of the Premio Jose Marti, the prize for American journalists writing articles about Cuba in recent years... Registrar George W. Smith and Director of Admissions George Giampetro attended the meeting of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers in Phoenix, Ariz., April 17-22. Mr. Smith spoke to the group on “Summary of Year Round Operation in Higher Education’’... UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI Office of Public Information DR. MEAD HIGHLIGHTS A lecture by noted anthropologist Mar-ACADEMIC HONORS DAY garet Mead will highlight the Seventh Annual Academic Honors Day program on Wednesday, May 4. Dr. Mead will speak at 8 p.m. in the Student Union cafeteria under auspices of The University Lecture Series. Her lecture and the honors program which will follow are open to the public. The academic procession will start at 7:50 p.m. from the Otto G. Richter Library, and proceed to the Union. After Dr. Mead's lecture, more than 800 students will be recognized for their academic achievements. Earlier in the day, State Attorney Richard Gerstein, a UM alumnus, will be guest speaker at the Eighth Annual Academic Honor Societies Luncheon in the Student Union. This program, co-sponsored by Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma, will begin at noon, and tickets are available from any member of Alpha Lambda Delta or from the office of the Dean of Women at $2 each. Dr. Mead currently is curator of ethnology at the American Museum of Natural History and adjunct professor of anthropology at Columbia University. She was listed last year as one of the outstanding women of the 20th Century by women's editors across the country. Dr. Mead is the author of many books on anthropology, including "Coming of Age in Samoa," "Anthropologists and What They Do," ind "Family," the pictorial survey of man photographed by Ken Heyman, who appeared on the Tenth Anniversary Miami Conference on Communications Arts April 21 at the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery. "Family" was recently chosen as a Book of the Month Club selection and is under consideration for a Pulitzer Prize. FALL REGISTRATION Registration dates for the Fall semester DATES ARE ALTERED have been, changed because of a conflict with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish holiday. President Henry King Stanford announced that registration will take place Sept. 13 and 14, instead of Sept. 15 and 16, the dates of the holiday. The beginning of classes has been advanced to Sept. 15 and late registration will begin Sept. 15 and continue through Sept. 20. The semester will end on Jan. 21, 1967, and Commencement will be Friday, Jan. 27. DR. MCLEOD NAMED Dr. Allan G. W. McLeod has been ap- ( Y MEDICAL SCHOOL pointed acting chairman of the department of obstetrics-gynecology of the School of Medicine. He succeeds Dr. Denis Cavanagh, who is leaving to assume the chairmanship of the department of obstetrics and gynecology of the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Hayden C.
