The Miami Vol. XXXI University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., Hurricane September 30, 1955 _No. * SBG Plans Giant Pep Rally $m Story On Pago 2 * * * * * * * * * Fraternities, Sororities Open Rush Today IN UNE FOR REFRESHMENTS at the interfaith dinner are freshmen coeds Diane Monk, Joyce Rothenberg and Helen Lackman. Student kosten is Ibis Quein Ellen O’Donnell. Purpose of the dinner was to introduce new students to the various reiig- ious organisations on campus. After the dinner, students visited the religious houses and met the advisors from all religious groups. Students assembled at the Student Club stadium before being guided to the Hillel Foundation. WELCOMING FRESHMEN CADETS to the Army ROTC program is Diane Williams, homecoming and Army ROTC Queen. Frosh registrants Sam O'Neal and Tony Rilliardi pick up information blanks Photo by Glenn about the reserve officers training program. Both the Army and Air Force ROTC programs had a large enrollment. Upon completion of the program, cadets will receive reserve commissions. Seo Story On Pago 3 I--------The Inside Story------------------------------i What They Are Saying ... “Student Body Government is pulling out all stops for the pre-game spirit rally,” says Bill Merritt, SBG president, about a spectacular pep rally Thursday night before the UM-Notre Dame football game. “If the student body sincerely wants to help win the biggest football game in the South this fall, they’ll come out and demonstrate their spirit.” Sm atory on page 2. “If we are to keep pace with other educational institutions in the United States, we must learn to accept responsibility for all activity concerning students,” writes Charles Liebman, member of the faculty-student relations committee. See guest editorial on page 8. “I wish to express my deep appreciation to members of the administrative staff, the faculty and student body for the understanding manner in which everyone adjusted to the fact that the Ashe Memorial Building was not entirely completed in time for the registration period,” writes Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson, UM president. See story on page 2. “Joe Kohut is always dependable. You rarely have to worry about him. He’ll take care of his share of the work, and always give that extra effort,” says UM football Coach Gene Elleiuon about the Hurricane star right guard. If the blue-eyed black-haired Patty will be on the playing field at the Orange Bowl’ tonight during the half-time show, Dave Glenn, Hurricane editor, will pin an orchid on her.
