Willis G. Lipscomb, Senior Vice President-Traffic and Sales said the new P an Am cred it plan is designed to bring in tern a tio n al trav el w ithin the scope of th e m illions of persons who ca rry nationally-recognized general-purpose cred it c a rd s ; will be able to charge a trip to alm ost any overseas destination. Travelers will be able to ob tain a ir tran sp o rtation on credit a t any P an Am office or a t any of 3,850 P an Am-authorized travel agents in the United States or Canada, w ith a choice o f: 1. C harging a ir transportation w ith an American Express credit card. 2. C harging a ir transportation w ith a Universal A ir Travel Plan card. 3. C harging a ir transportation by showing any general-purpose credit card as a credit reference. 4. C harging a ir transportation ' Slash Fares To Latin America By 14% to 43% A sweeping program of fare reductions to various Caribbean and South American destinations will be introduced by Pan American Airways on January 1, Willis G. Lipscomb, Senior Vice President-Traffic and Sales, announced. Tempelhof W elcomes Its First Jet B erlin’s Tem pelhof A irport welcomed its first com m ercial je t tra n sp o rt on Decem ber 2. The plane, a three-engine Boe ing 727 leased by P an Am from the Boeing Company, was landed easily by Chief Pilot-T echnical Capt. Scott Flow er, using only about h alf the available ru n way. It had flown from F ra n k f u r t in 42 m inutes, com pared to one hour, 20 m inutes for our DC-6B’s. P an Am and Boeing pilots then executed a series of tak e offs and landings to demon stra te the high perform ance and low sound level of th e 727 to aviation and governm ent offi cials. The dem onstration in cluded a take-off, flight and landing w ith one of the th ree engines deliberately sh u t down. All operations were com pletely satisfactory. As p a rt of its continuing pro gram to provide its passengers Earnings Soar For 9 Months “SQUATTER’S RIGHTS”, says little Paul Guzzardo, youngest son of Frank Guz zardo, Sales Manager/ROM. Paul has taken possession of the Eisenhower Trophy, al most his size, that was to be presented to the winner of the Fourth World Ama teur Golf Campionship. Record earnings fo r P an A m erican W orld A irw ays fo r the first nine m onths of the year were made public recently by Ju a n T. Trippe, C hairm an of the Board. N et income fo r the nine-m onth period ending Septem ber 30, 1964, was $34,238,000, or $2.49 per share. This is an increase of 20.7 p er cent over n et income of $28,364,000, or $2.16 p er share fo r the same period last year. P an Am’s n et income fo r th e first nine m onths of 1964 exceeded n et income fo r the entire year 1963, w hich was $33,568,000. Third q u arter net income totaled $23,389,000, as compared with $18,090,000 for the same quarter in 1963. P er share earn ings for the q u arter were $1.67 on 13,974,576 shares, the aver age num ber outstanding. P er share earnings fo r the same period in 1963 were $1.41 per share on 12,850,138 shares, the average num ber outstanding in 1963 a fte r adjustm ent for the 1964 stock split. Plenty, if the name is that of Captain Gray. And what Pan Am sta tion wouldn’t respond the same as Stockholm did. It all started with a message that requested Pan Am to handle Captain Gray’s arrival at Arlanda Airport in a private plane. Everyone was alerted and all City Ticket Office and Air port officials were on hand to receive the President of Pan American. Well the name was the same but it just happened to be that another Captain Gray was piloting a small pri vate company airplane on a tour throughout Europe. But let that not suffice. Barbro Ekberg, a Sales Repre sentative in Stockholdm, de cided to spend a week-end in Rome, and was surprised to find the press awaiting her arrival. The pax list indicated a Miss Ekberg from Sweden and all concerned were ex pecting an Anita-type Ekberg. Mr. Lipscomb described P an Am’s new low fa re levels as the m ost significant developm ent in C aribbean tourism since the in troduction of the je t tra n sp o rt more th a n five years ago.
