C L I PAN AMERICAN P A C I F I C - A L A S K A DIVISION Read From The Land Of The Kodiak To The Land Of The Koala—From The Golden Gate To The Ginza Voi. 13 No. 16 PUBLISHED BY THE EMPLOYEES OF PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS December 19, 1957 To All Pan American Employees : As the holiday season approaches, I wish to extend to all in the Pan American family my warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. This year, once again, the Pan American team has made significant strides in improving and expanding our service to the public. We have accomplished record advances in passenger and cargo traffic. The Atlantic Division has greatly increased in non-stop services. The Pad fie-Alaska Division is making its Polar Route a success. The Latin American Division has increased its operations and services. Greater efficiency in our United States reservations network, accomplished through skillful use of the teleregister equipment, is making more satisfied passengers for our Company. Pan American’s tcholly-owned affiliate, Intercontinental Hotels Corporation, has expanded during 1957. Our company’s contribution to the defense effort of the free world continues to grow in importance. The Guided Missiles Range Division fulfills a vital misson in our government’s military program. Our Technical Assistance Program, under the auspices of the International Cooperation Administration, is playing an important role in the developing economy of other nations. During 1957, our project in Afghanistan got under way. It and our projects in Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey have made much progress during the year. During the coming year, delivery to our Company of jet aircraft will begin. Pan American will become the first American airline to offer jet service. In 1958, we must intensify our preparations for the vast increases in traffic and other changes which will stem from the age. Our progress and leadership in the air transport industry are the result of the efforts of many people all over the world who together make up our Company. The skill, experience and teamwork of the Pan American family enable us to look forward with confidence to the New Year and to the years ahead. Again, best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. m Sincerely, To All Pacific-Alaska Division Employees: As 1957 draws to a close I would like to offer my sincere thanks to each of you for the unselfish cooperation and diligent efforts that you have exerted for Pan American throughout the year. With a continuation of this spirit exhibited by all of you I am looking forward to 1958 in anticipation of a most successful year for our Division. To each of you and your families I extend my personal wish for a Merry Christmas and a Happy Nevp Year. Sincerely, New Assistant Division Manager Job To Frank Hull Service Manager Frank Hull was this month elevated to the newly created post of Assistant Division Manager. A veteran of over 20 years’ service with Pan American, Frank is starting in his new job well fortified with experience in several departments. He started at Alameda as a mechanic’s helper — second class. He progressed in the Maintenance department, becoming a chief mechanic and finally, during World War II, maintenance base superintendent at Honolulu. He also was assigned to Auckland during his mechanic’s career. After leaving Honolulu he was named division Industrial Relations manager. His next post was that of field superintendent, engaged in work now handled by the Ground Operations department. From that job he was appointed to be one of four assistant Operations managers, and in February of 1947 he was named Service manager. GOING UP _ Frank Hull, above, has been elevated from his Service manager’s post to become Assistant Division Manager for the Pacific-Alaska Division. Pan Ain’s Frobisher Staff House Finished On Schedule The Pan American staff house at Frobisher has been completed and accepted by the company. Its present occupants include SOM Gordy Cragg, chief mechanic Clarence Wilson, commissary supervisor Ted Hunter, operations assistant John Blair and assistant dispatcher Gil Stafford. Flight crews will start laying over at Frobisher around the first of the year.
