CORPORATE I IRRARY Progress MAR 2 9 1983 PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS March 24, 1983 Number 1 This is the first issue of Pan Am Progress , an informal newsletter designed to provide you with up-to-date information about the Company. Progress will be published every other week or on special occasions if a significant development occurs, and will occasionally carry items about the airline industry and other carriers. Your comments and suggestions will be welcomed. SPRING TELECONFERENCE SET FOR APRIL 17 On Sunday April 17, Chairman Ed Acker will host another employee satellite teleconference similar to the very popular one held last November. This time the program will originate from the lobby of the Pan Am Building in New York City. It will again be beamed via satellite to employees in Washington, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Long Island and Suffern, New York. Chairman Acker will bring you up to date on Pan Am's status and prospects and review our summer advertising and marketing programs. It is important that each employee understand our plans for this very critical summer. Following his presentation, you will again be able to ask the Chairman questions live. Meeting locations will be announced shortly. Plan now to attend and bring your family. "THIRD THURSDAY" TOLL-FREE LINE IS BIG HIT Pan Am’s toll-free information line was put into service on March 17 and 73 employees used it that day to talk directly to Company officials. Questions centered around such topics as personnel policies, scheduling, advertising and finance. All questions and comments were summarized and distributed to key management people. The number -- (800) 221-6683 outside the New York City area and 880-1777 or 880-6466 in New York — will be manned the "third Thursday" of each month from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. New York time. THREE FLYING TIGER 747-200's WILL ENTER PAN AM SERVICE SOON The first of three 747-200 passenger aircraft obtained in a swap with Flying Tiger (for four Pan Am 747 Freighters) arrived March 11 and the other two will be delivered by April 1. Following modification, two will enter scheduled service on April 24 — the start of the summer season. The third will be ready to fly the Pan Am colors by mid-May. VALUE OF ESOP ACCOUNTS INCREASE The stock market continues to reflect investor confidence in Pan Am's future. During most of March our stock has been traded at about $5.30 per share. That means the value of the stock in your ESOP account has increased considerably, since the June 30, 1982 value was $3.25 per share. For example, if you have 500 shares your ESOP account had a value of $2,750 on March 9. That's a gain of $1,125 in less than nine months. (over)
