Vol. 5, No. 25 NEW YORK 17, N. Y. MARCH, 1950 PAAERS Deposit 77 Pints in Blood Bank Almost a hundred New York Office and Reservations employees visited the Red Cross Blood Mobile in the Queens Plaza cafeteria on Friday, February 17th. After the normal amount of rejections for colds, etc., 77 pints of blood were taken. A nurse's aide takes Charles Swithers' temperature while nurse, Frances Perry, gives Dorothea Alberti the hemoglobin test. The result is that once again all New York Office and Reservations employees and members of their families are protected during the coming year in an emergency where blood is necessary. You will remember from previous articles that the precious fluid costs $35.00 a pint when purchased from professional donors. It is significant that Jim McGuire of Tabulating, John Savin of Passenger Revenue, Charles Swithers of Reservations, William Bjorkman of Reservations, Dorothea Alberti of Purchasing, Ed Magee of Reservations, Kay Dorrian of Purchasing, Mary McHugh of Internal Audit and Jack Lillis of Traffic & Sales were foremost among those volunteering to give blood. During the past year these employees or their families used the facilities of the blood bank when emergencies arose. In each instance the blood was speedily dispatched from the New York Office credit existing in the central Red Cross Bank. Since we realize that every employee cannot donate blood for age or physical reasons, the credit we have established is meant to cover every New York Office employee and members of his family whether or not he has donated. If an emergency arises in your family, contact Miss Alger, our nurse, immediately and she will authorize the withdrawal from our bank credit. BASIL RECEIVES 15-YEAR PIN Mr. J. Basil received his fifteen-year pin at a brief ceremony on February 11th in the General Accounting Office. Disbursement Manager Tom Ford presents Mr. J. Basil with his fifteen-year pin as Ed Kelly of Accounts Payable looks on. Mr. Basil came to PAA from Sikorsky Aircraft. His first PAA position was as buyer for our Pacific Island bases. From 1937 to 1947 he was in charge of the Invoice Section when it was part of Purchasing and Accounting. Later when that section was dissolved as a unit and merged with Accounts Payable, he stayed with Disbursements. Five-year pins were awarded in February to John Brew of GAO, Mary Anne Harte of Shipping and Mary Lynch of Purchasing. (Continued on Page 2, Col. 2) SYSTEM APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED Vice President John C. Leslie has been appointed Deputy to Administrative Vice President Dean, and Mr. Jerome Fenton has been elected Assistant Vice President in charge of Industrial Relations. Colonel Clarence M. Young has been made a Vice President of PAA with headquarters in San Francisco. Mr. Leslie joined PAA in 1929 and was made a Vice President in October, 1945. His duties as Deputy to Administrative Vice President Dean will be in addition to his present responsibilities. He has most recently been Manager of the Department of Airports of the City of Los Angeles. Mr. Fenton came with the company in September, 1943, as Assistant to Vice President Cooper to handle wage and salary administration for the System. Subsequently he became Assistant to Vice President Gledhill. 1950 COMMITTEE HEADS President Ed Dowling has announced the heads of the various committees of the Skyline Club for the coming year.
