M*. (ImAIgH celebrate* birthday Monday, the 12th, was a lively day here at Ruston Academy. It was the occasion of Mr. Ruston s 76th birthday, and the entire school turned out for an afternoon of entertainment and dancing in celebration of the event. Kim^TELL Many Ruston students attended the Little Theater's presentation of "Kiss and Tell" on November 2nd and 3rd at the Community House. The play was enjoyed by both young and old. Our congrats to Bill Butler and Alfred Sample for very convincing performance. An unexpected rain held up the stage show, forcing many to prolong their dancing in the sala. As soon as the downpour passed over, the scheduled stage show got under way. First there was a rendition by the girls' chorus, after which we heard two piano soloists, Lourdes Varela and Miriam Morgenstein, and an accordian interpretation by Dan Klep-per. An entertaining Tecital by Sr. Vazquez received tremendous applause from the audience. After hearing several renditions bv the auartei the paiion — was entertained by a short skit written by Annie Ludlum and Carolyn Damp. In it we were delighted by the take-offs on such eminent Ruston teachers as Dr. Alvarado, Mrs. Hill, Dr. Gundlach, played by Geoffrey Horne, Anne French, and Alfred Sample respectively, and several other imitations which the audience seemed to enjoy immensely. Rustoman again printed Once again the Rustonkm will be printed; again will it come off the presses in a readable form. Gutenburg's invention is again ours1! After the perfarmanse Mr. Ruston was brought to the stage and presented with <a suitcaset, complete with hit, the gift of the faculty and students. Then an immense birthay cake was wheeled into the stage, and Mr. Ruston deligted the audience by blowing out all of the seventy-six candles in one snuff. After being presented with a scroll as a remembrance from the Senior Class of 1945-46, Mr. Ruston delivered a simple address of -gratitude and thanks to the entire school. The audience applaused vigorously, after which all students, teachers, a n d guests retired to the commercial department for refreshments. During the entire afternoon alumni, old friends, and teachers visited our academy to extend best wishes and congratulations to their friend and old adviser, Mr. Ruston. We all join hands, Mr. Ruston, to thank: you lor all you have accomplished for us, and to express our hope that you pass many a birthday as happy as this one aftuntei, Al empezar este año el campeonato profesional los fanáticos de Bachillerato se apasionaron de nuevo. S. ever did her Spanish homework by herself. "The Tigers Roar" bought over the "Rus-tonian". No one used slugs on the coke machine. There was no such thing as "The Smokers Club". Any student used a word with "double sentido" in front of a teacher. The flying Dutchman Almost all of you have heard of the ghost ship called "The Flying Dutchman," but few know the story behind the apparition. I heard it from a man who had been to sea and had sworn he had seen the "Dutchman." There are many versions of the tales, so I won't swear to this one, but... On November.... 18...., the German clipper ship, Geniewstat, sailed for California around the Horn to bring back a load of hides. The ship seemed accursed -from the start; spars sprung, stays parted, lifts fell, all but one of its boats were stove, and the captain cursed all the gods for the weather that accompanied them.
