ALUMNEWS UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES CASAA Gets Going Active members in the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association have begun to plan the future actions and activities of the association. Bernard R. Jaffe On Tuesday, January 9, the first meeting of the Board of Directors was held and the by-laws were officially adopted. President Bettye Lou Nicolaides' resignation was announced and, in accordance with the by-laws, President-Elect Steve Hill assumed the presidency for the remainder of this term and will continue in that office through his regular term. Bettye Lou will continue to be as active as possible, serving as the immediate Past-President. Bernard Jaffe was appointed to act as Parliamentarian for the association. The following committees were established: Nominating Committee: Establishes procedures for election and for preparation of a slate of candidates for the next election. They will have to fill the positions of President-Elect, three Vice- Presidents, and nine directors. Chairman: Bettye Lou Nicolaides. Homecoming (standing) Committee: Initiates and coordinates activi- ties for Homecoming 1979. Chairman: Barbara Brown. Annual Loyalty Fund (standing) Committee: Plans and works for increased alumni participation in the annual telephone campaign. Chairman: Paul Robinson. Major Gift (special) Committee: Works with the General Alumni Association and the administration to secure major contributions for the University and the College. Chairman: Paul Robinson. Student Affairs (special) Committee: Plans involvement of alumni in student activities; works with the administration on orientation programs; provides alumni input to administrative committees on attrition and degree requirements. Chairman: Audrey Finkelstein. Activities (special) Committee: Plans and organizes activities and projects to involve Alumni throughout the year. Chairman: Barbara Brown. Communications (special) Committee: Determines amount and type of alumni communications; assists with preparation of Alumnews; coordinates at various levels to avoid duplication. Chairman: Steve Hill. On Tuesday, January 16; a general meeting was held to inform interested alumni of CASAA activities and to solicit volunteers for committees. Committee membership is open to all College alumni. Only with the active involvement of many alumni will the association be able to represent their interests successfully. Dr. Eugene Clasby, Associate Professor of English and Chairman of the Faculty Senate, was invited to speak at the meeting. He spoke of the importance of a liberal education and the common bond of College alumni. CASAA Board meets the administration at the Homecoming Luncheon: Stephen J.
