SPEAKING OF PEOPLE THE BI-WEEKLY NEWS LETTER For Faculty and Staff Volume 10, No. 2 October 6, 1969 UNITED FUND CAMPAIGN With a theme of "Reach Out — Invest in BEGINS ON CAMPUS People and We All Benefit," the Univer- sity of Miami this week begins its campaign to raise $65,000 for the United Fund. Dade County’s United Fund goal for 1969 is$5 million and the funds will go to aid 45 local non-profit health, welfare, youth, characterbuilding and medical research agencies. For the first time, the United Fund has included in its goals these new programs: decentralization of services, emergency service centers open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; services for children of migrant farm laborers in the area of day nurseries and youth services, and massive assists to hard-line drug addicts. Last year’s campus goal was $50,000 and University of Miami personnel gave $53,000. President Stanford is university chairman, and Edward G. Said Coll: "We have agreed to an increase in the University’s goal because of the direct tie the University of Miami maintains with many of the United Fund agencies. We realize, far more than the average participating group, the enormous dividends the United Fund provides the University family and our community." Coll said the campaign would aim for Fair Share participation by all segments of the university. Personalized pledge cards will be distributed through divisions and departments.
