The course will be given at M.I.T. the week of June 26 under auspices of Harvard, M.I.T., Tufts and the Kellogg Foundation... Mrs. Madelines. Riffev. library, was installed as president of the Dade County Library Association... Dr. Samuel P. Mevers. IMS, will be one of 10 microbiologists from this country to participate in the U.S.-Japan Seminar on Marine Microbiology Aug. 15-28 in Tokyo. He will discuss his work on the biology of the marine fungi. From Tokyo, Dr. Mevers has been invited to attend the Seventh European Symposium on Marine Biology in September at Helgoland, Germany, where he will present aspects of his current research on marine/fungal nematode associations and plant degradation... Dr. Leon H. Mims. Jr., medicine, has been named presidentelect of the Florida Orthopedic Society... Dr. Norman L. Weinburg. engineering, presented a paper entitled “Time Domain Analysis of a Class of Delay Networks” at the Ninth Midwest Symposium on Circuit Theory at Oklahoma State University... Dean William F. Lee, music, spoke on the status of music in Florida at the Third Annual Delegate Assembly of the Florida Arts UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI Office of Public Information June 6, 1966 Vo!. 6, No. 17 DEFERRED GIFTS Almost eight million dollars in deferred NEAR $8 MILLION gifts have been pledged to the University during the past year, the UM Endowment Committee was told recently at the first annual luncheon meeting on the Main Campus. Deferred gifts refer to funds that will become available to the University at some future date, such as bequests in wills and trusts. Baron de Hirsch Meyer is the chairman of the 64-member Endowment Committee which is composed of leading lawyers, accountants and trust officers in the Greater Miami area. Bill Colson, H. P. Forrest, Dennis P. Clum and E. Nolan Johnson are vice-chairmen. President Henry King Stanford and Oscar E. Dooly, chairman of the UM Board of Trustees, expressed the University's appreciation to the group for its active support and participation in behalf of the University. The Singing Hurricanes, directed by Glenn Draper, provided entertainment at the luncheon, following which the committee was taken on a tour of the campus. COMMENCEMENT EVENTS Commencement exercises for more SET JUNE 11 AND 12 than 1200 students will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in the Miami Beach Convention Hall. Included are more than 900 undergraduate degrees, and almost 300 graduate degrees. On Saturday, June 11, the President's Reception for graduates and their parents and friends will be held at the Student Union from 4 to 6 p.m. It is hoped that all faculty will attend this reception. Immediately following the reception, there will be a ‘'Dutch Treat" dinner in the Ibis Room and dancing on the Patio. Attendance at the dinner is limited to 800, by reservation only, at $3 per plate. Reservations should be made with the Office of Alumni Relations, Room 240, Ashe Building. DR. LOW NAMED Dr. Emmet F. Low, Jr. has been ap- ACTING DEAN pointing Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, succeeding Dr. E. Morton Miller who has resigned to return to teaching and research after 13 years as Dean. Dr. Low's appointment, announced by Presi-' it Stanford, became effective on June 1. ' Dr. Low joined the UM faculty in 1955 as assistant professor of mathematics, and was named associate professor in 1960. He became acting chairman of the department of mathematics in 1961, and its chairman in 1962. Dr. Low holds a B.S. degree from John B. Stetson University, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida.
