I R I T A S The Weekly Dec. 1 7, 1962 OFFICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION Vol. 3 No. 13 Mi** mm—m fclftniin I PRESIDENT STANFORD WISHES EVERYONE "A CHRISTMAS OF JOY AND HAPPINESS AND OF LASTING SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE” '’These first few months at the University have been a heart-warming experience for my family and me. All of us are profoundly grateful to all of you for the hospitality and kindness you have showered upon us. Thus, as we approach our first Christmas in Miami, you have already made us feel at home. "Wherever I have spent Christmas—in the Black Forest, on Long Island, in the Rockies— I have felt a sense of awe and wonder at the approaching season. Marcellus on the parapet captured this feeling in a beautiful summary: 'So hallowed and so gracious is the time.' "I anticipate that the experience of Christmas among the Palms will be as full of wonder as ever. "Somehow a moment of inspiration must be made to last to touch attitudes and outlooks that occupy the infinite number of routine minutes that follow. I have always been interested in St. Luke's account of The Shepherds. He tells us that they returned to their flocks after paying homage to The Baby. That is what we must all do after any great religious experience—go back to our jobs. The true significance of the experience depends upon the way we alter our lives to reflect it. "My wish for all of you is a Christmas of joy and happiness and of lasting spiritual significance."
