DAVIS FOUNDATIONS grant of $1 million from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations established by the late Arthur Vining Davis, who died in 1962 at the age of 95. Mr. Davis had been a member of the University's Board of Trustees for nine years prior to his death. The grant was given UM as an unrestricted gift to the Golden Anniversary Development Program, and was the largest ever received from a local private foundation. Said Dr. Stanford, “Because Mr. Davis wanted to study medicine in his youth and was deterred from this career by lack of funds, I will propose to our Board of Trustees that this grant be earmarked for the Medical Center." John M. Dyer, marketing, has been named a member of the Florida International Development Advisory Council, a unit of the Florida Development Commission... Dr, NeilSchneiderman. psychol-ogy, gave a seminar entitled “The Role of the Central Nervous System in Cardiac Conditioning in Rabbits" to the biology department at the University of Buffalo recently. He and four co-workers presented a symposium on “Response Divergencies in Conditioning" at the Southeastern Psychological Association convention in Atlanta April 13-15... J. E. Branch. J. P, Sampson. and J. E. Sweet, architecture and architectural engineering, attended the Office of Civil Defense Seminar for Qualified Instructors of Fallout Shelter Analysis in Washington, D.C. April 14-15... Science Research Associates, a subsidiary of IBM, has published with a 1967 copyright, “Cross Number Puzzles - Fractions," with a teacher's manual and a student record book, all co-authored by Dr. Mark Murfin. chairman, elementary education, and Jack Bazelon. This is a companion to the Whole Numbers publication in 1966 and will be followed by a publication on Decimals to complete the series in 1968... Alan Dana, director, continuing professional education, spoke on “The Sociology of Youth and Drinking" at Barry College recently...
