NEUROLOGY DIVISION Establishment of a Department of Neurology at the School of Medicine BECOMES DEPARTMENT was announced Sunday by President Stanford. Formerly a division of neurology within the Department of Medicine, the department will be headed by Dr. Peritz Scheinberg, who has been chief of the neurology division since it was organized in 1955. Dr. Scheinberg is a member of the Medical Advisory Boards of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and of Cerebral Palsy, Inc.; a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Neurology; a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; a consultant to the Surgeon General of the U.S. on Research Grants (Cardiovascular Study Section) and a member of the Joint Council Sub-committee on Cerebrovascular Disease, National Institutes of Health. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FORMS The development council of the UM Alumni Association has announced ’’ALUMNI CENTURY CLUB” the formation of an Alumni Century Club for alumni who contribute $100 to the Association’s development program. Chairman of the Council, John E. Allen, reports Alumni Century Club funds will be earmarked for the Pearson Science Fund, established by the Association in honor of Chancellor Pearson. Goal for the charter year is. a minimum of 100 members. Alumni not yet in a position to contribute $100 may earmark their annual gifts for the Pearson Science Fund which will be utilized for the overall University Science Facilities Program. SPEAKING OF PEOPLE Debate Coach Donald Sprague, human relations, has been elected for the tenth consecutive year to the West Point National Debate Tournament Committee... Karl S. Pond, modern languages, joined Yale linguist Nelson Brooks in presenting a two-day workshop for the State of Colorado in Denver, March 1-2. On March 23, he will give the keynote address at the first Illinois FLES conference in Chicago...Dr. Albert E. Harum, business law, is author of ’’Remolding of Common Law Defamation,” in the February issue, American Bar Association Journal... Dr. Archie L. McNeal, director of libraries, is at Auburn University, March 3-5, as a member of the committee on the Auburn Self-Study Program ...Dr. Shasta M. Bryant, modern languages, presented a paper on ’’The Spanish Romance in English Translation” at the Feb. 23 meeting of the South Florida chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, in Miami. Dr. Bryant is outgoing vice president of the association...Martin 0. Kahn, marketing, addressed the Fashion Group of Miami Feb. 26 on ’’Your Career in the Fashion World.”...Dr. Stephen M. Corey, education, was principal speaker at the regional conference of Kappa Delta Pi in Chicago, Feb. 16, where he discussed ’’Helping Other People Change.”...Dr. Charlton W. Tebeau, history, was elected president of the Florida Anthropological Society during the annual meeting at the University of South Florida where he presented a paper, ’’Indians in the Everglades National Park.” As wife of the president, Mrs. Tebeau by custom of the Society, was elected secretary...Dr. Gerrit Schipper, philosophy, was guest speaker for the Feb. 28 meeting of the UM Library Staff Association. His topic: ’’Notes on the Philosophic Quest.Joining Dr. Tharp as UM delegates to the Chicago meeting of the Association for Higher Education, March 3-6, are Drs. Vonk, Munson, Ward, Robert Williams and Arthur Phillips...Dr. James E. Wellington, English, will give a series of five lectures analyzing the effects of religion upon the poetry of Dante and T.S. Eliot at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Tuesday evenings at 8, beginning March 5...A paper by Dr. Michel G. Malti, electrical engineering, ’’Three Dimensional Theory of the Eddy Current Coupling,” presented at the Jan. 30 meeting of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in New York City, will be published in the transactions of the Institute...,Dr. Ralph Jones, chairman, department of medicine, will discuss ’’Progress in Modern Medicine” March 5 as opening speaker on the Cultural Forum, a series of 10 Tuesday evening lectures to be presented by the Division of Continuing Education at the Morton Towers, Miami Beach.
