UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI Office of Public Information February 21, 1966 Voi. 6, No. 10 BOARD OF GOVERNORS LISTED FOR HOSPITAL Members of the nine-man Board of ________________________ Governors of the National Children's Cardiac Hospital have been announced by President Stanford. Election of the new board followed expiration Feb. 3 of the terms of office of the former members. The new Board of Governors is composed of three members of the former board: Richard I. Berenson, George S. Okell, Sr., and Sidney Ansin; three officials of the University: President Stanford, Eugene E. Cohen, vice president for financial affairs and treasurer, and Dr. Hayden C. Nicholson, dean of the School of Medicine; and three UM trustees: R. B. Gautier, Jr., Leonard Abess and Dr. Warren Quillian. At their Feb. 14 meeting to elect officers of the corporation of the National Children's Cardiac Hospital, the Board of Governors elected the following officers: Berenson, chairman; Gautier, vice chairman; Dr. Stanford, president; Cohen, vice president and treasurer; William F. McLaughlin, UM business manager, secretary, and Charles D. Trexler, NCCH administrator, assistant secretary-treasurer. In response to the request of the former NCCH Board of Governors in December 1964, the UM School of Medicine operated the hospital under a lease agreement until October 21, 1965, when ownership of the hospital was officially transferred to the University. Both the board and officers of the corporation, Berenson said, will work closely with the local and national women's auxiliary chapters which have supported the hospital in its work with young victims of cardiac disease for more than a quarter of a century. GENERAL TRUMAN TO VISIT CAMPUS Lieutenant General Louis W. Truman, __________________commander of the Third U.S. Army, headquartered at Fort McPherson, Georgia, .will visit the campus Tuesday, Feb. 22, for a reception and inspection tour of the University and its Army ROTC facilities and program. The reception will be in the President's Room of the Student Union from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with the tour to follow. Gen. Truman, who assumed command of the Third Army in 1965 after two years as commanding general of the VII U.S. Army Corps in Europe, was stationed at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941 and saw extensive service in the European Theater during World War II. He also commanded the 223rd Infantry Regiment in Korea. -DR. STANFORD NAMED TO LBJ ADVISORY GROUP Dr. Stanford has been named to Presi- _____________________________ dent Lyndon B. Johnson's Advisory Council on Developing Institutions. The Council's purpose is to aid the U.S. Office of Education in strengthening smaller colleges of the country.
