SAN SAB SALE The sale of San Sebastian Residence Hall, BEFORE TRUSTEES which has been authorized by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, is scheduled for final approval by the full Board, Nov. 5. Purchaser is Alfred E. Swires of Miami Beach, who will pay $185,000 within 45 days following approval. “San Sab,” a former boom-time hotel which once housed the exclusive “Tiffen Restaurant,” was purchased by UM in 1939 from the estate of the late Lindsey Hopkins. It housed successively, administrative offices, co-eds, Army and Air Force cadets in training during the war and from 1949 until its closing last year, served as a men’s dormitory. Proceeds from the sale will be applied toward a fund for construction of science facilities on Main Campus. Aaron Lipman, sociology, has returned to UM after more than a year as Fulbright exchange professor at Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Bogota.... Articles by Dr. Grayson D. Browning, philosophy, will soon appear in the international publications, “Methodos,” “Dialogue,” and “Australian Journal of Philosophy”, ,.. Inflation’s effect on life insurance is examined by Charles F. Eyre, finance, in the September Best’s Life Insurance Magazine... DR„ KNOPF GETS Dr. William C. Knopf, Jr., who joined UM TRIPLE ROLE Oct. 15 as professor of electrical engineering, has also been named chairman of that department and acting chairman of IMS’s new Division of Marine Technology. Author or co-author of more than 160 scientific works, Dr. Knopf has been a University of Florida faculty member since 1961. WALLACH GRANT Dr. William B. Munson, chairman of Uni-PROBES COURSE versity College’s social sciences division, will head a study probing the establishment of a unique course in the legal and political problems of world peace under a recent grant from the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Foundation of New York City. Using the initial grant of $2,500, Dr. Munson will visit other universities in the southeast to invite their authorities in these areas to attend a conference at UM next spring. From their discussions, UM hopes to initiate the new course in senior and graduate curriculums by the fall of 1964-65, Munson reports. Dr. Mose L. Harvey, consultant to the president on international studies, spoke at a recent Naval Reserve Officers School session,... “Composition Notebook,” a combination handbook - notebook by Arthur G. Phillips, humanities, has been published by W. C. Brown Co..... Dr. J. W. Powell, Office for the Study of Instruction, taped “A Philosophy for Adult Education” for radio station WFSU, Tallahassee.... Dr. Barry J. Hersker, marketing, wrote “Made in Miami, The Apparel Industry,” in the current Miamian magazine....
