Tanner, M.S.W., on "A Descriptive Pilot Study of the Non-Emergent Use of the Jackson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room"; Bery Engebretsen, M.D., "Medical Care at Rock Festivals"; John Davies, M.D., M.P.H., "A Prevalence Study of Drug Abuse among Prisoners in the Dade County Jail", and Margaret Linn, consultant, "Multi-Disciplinary Characteristics of Patients in Nursing Homes." Lynn P. Carmichael, M.D., director, moderates panel on "Future Trends in Health Care Delivery." Others from the School of Medicine: Sidney Blumenthal, M.D., pediatric cardiology and associate dean, continuing education, serving on a panel: "What's Next in Health Care Delivery"; Raul Cuadrado, Dr.P.H., epidemiology and public health, "Pre-payment in the Spanish-Speaking Community"; Jim C. Hirschman, M.D., cardiology, "The Cardiac Emergency Unit"; Fred Seligman, M.D., M.P.H., director, Comprehensive Health Care, and pediatrics, "Costs of Comprehensive Health Care"; also, M. Eugene Flipse, M.D., director, UM Student Health Service, "Pre-Payment and the Student Health Service," and Dr. Eugene H. Man, dean of research coordination, who leads a consultation hour. CAMPUS UNITED FUND The 1970 United Fund drive on campus DRIVE AT $61,798 had reached $61,798.28 by Nov. 9 when Veritas went to press, according to Robert I. Fuerst, director of academic services and associate campaign chairman. The figure represents 77.2% of the UM's goal of $80,000. The contributions so far by department: President's Office, $2,256.42 (89.1% of goal); Academic Affairs, $31,406.59 (80%); Financial Affairs, $10,107.06 (78.1%); Development Affairs, $2,617.40 (127.5%); Medical Affairs, $10,929.28 (50.2%), and Student Affairs, $4,481.53 (88.5%). Added Fuerst, "we're coming down to the wire, with the drive ending Nov. 19. We ask all those who have not participated in the drive to reconsider contributing to the United Fund." NAME CHANGE FOR Dr. William F. Lee III, dean, School of WOODWIND QUINTET Music, announced that the group formerly performing as the University of Miami Faculty Woodwind Quintet will now be known as The American Woodwind Quintet in Residence at The University of Miami. The Quintet is in negotiation with concert management for local, national and international engagements and recordings this coming year. The Quintet is composed of Eugene Johnson, flute; Julien Balogh, oboe; William Klinger, clarinet; Elizabeth Bobo, French horn, and Luciano Magna-nini, bassoon. Frank Moya. M.D.. professor and chairman, dept, of anesthesiology, and associate dean, School of Medicine, was recently elected second vice president for scientific affairs of the American Society of Anesthesiologists... President Stanford spoke on "A Brutal Question: Can Our Democratic Society Make It?" at a luncheon of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida Oct. 29 at Lakeland Yacht Club... Dr. C. T. Mangrum, education, gave a paper on "Incidence of Dyslexia Increasing," at Florida State Reading Council annual convention, Hollywood Oct. 15-17. On Oct.' 14 he appeared on Ch. 10’s TV program, "For Women Today," talked about "The First R" (Reading). Dr. Mangrum is currently implementing a model reading program at Whispering Pines Elementary School... Dr. Suresh Chandra, mechanical engineering, attended Dade County Youth Council Conference Oct. 28 as Technical Consultant in the Environmental Pollution Task Force. On Nov. 4 he spoke on "Population Control" before Coral Division of National Council of Jewish Women... Dr. Morris Rockstein. acting chairman, physiology, will speak on "The Roles of Heredity and Environment in Determining Longevity," at Forte Forum, 1200 West Ave., Miami Beach, 10 a.m., Nov. 24... Eugene L. Nagel, M.D., anesthesiology, was keynote speaker at the meeting of the Florida Hospital Engineers Association... Dr. Harold L. Royer, chairman, accounting, was chairman of a national committee of the American Accounting Association on "Junior (Community) College Curriculum in Accounting" meeting, St.Louis...
