SPEAKING OF PEOPLE ( THE BI-WEEKLY NEWS LETTER Mrs. Mildred Langner. UM medical librarian, and national president of the Medical Library Association, will preside at the group's 66th annual convention at the Americana Hotel June 11-16... May 29, 1967 Vol. 7, No. 18 DR. LOUIS L. McQUITTY Dr. Louis L. McQuitty, dean of the Col-ARTS, SCIENCES DEAN lege of Social Science at Michigan State University, will join the University of Miami as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences August 1. He succeeds Dr. E. Morton Miller, who elected to return to teaching and research in zoology last June. Dr. Emmet F. Low, Jr., who has been serving as acting dean will become associate dean. Dr. McQuitty, 57, joined MSU as professor and head of the department of psychology in 1956, was named Dean in 1962. Prior to 1956, he was associated with the University of Illinois for 19 years as a member of its psychology department, Student Personnel Bureau and Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. During World War II, he was on military leave from Illinois for five years, serving with the U.S. Army in the United States and Italy and rising from the rank of 2nd Lieutenant to that of full colonel. He holds ‘his Master's and doctoral degrees in psychology from the University of Toronto and his bachelor of science in education from the University of Florida. Dr. McQuitty is married and the father of two children. CAPPS TO BECOME Charles M. Capps, who has been UM's ASST. SEC.-TREAS. Internal Auditor since 1963, will become Assistant Secretary-Treasurer June 1. Announcement of the appointment was made by Eugene E. Cohen, vice president for financial affairs. Mr. Capps will succeed Mrs. Irene W. Morrow, who will retire May 31 after 27 years with the University. A certified public accountant, Mr. Capps was associated with Haskins & Sells, national accounting firm, before joining UM. He received his degree in business administration from Stetson University. In addition to his corporate duties as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Mr. Capps, as Assistant Treasurer, will be in charge of responsibilities of the Bursar's Office, University Insurance and Real Estate, Investment Records and Cash Management. His successor as Internal Auditor has not yet been named. EZELLE TO HEAD Effective June 1, UM's payroll and per- PAYROLL DEPARTMENT sonal insurance-annuity responsibilities will be under Controller Paul Apt and will be directed by Jennings W. Ezelle, Jr., accountant with the Business Office since 1965, who will become Director of the Payroll Department. Mrs. Rosetta Koger, Administrative Assistant to Mrs. Irene W. Morrow since 1958, will become Assistant Director. In other June 1 promotions in the Financial Affairs Division, Marshall J. Saperstein will become Assistant Chief Accountant and Mrs. Marion F. Langer, Assistant Research Accountant. Dr. Margaret Jean Mustard, tropical botany and biological sciences, has received the “Outstanding Professor of the Year'' award from Orange Key, academic honor society for freshmen and sophomores, in recognition of her “dedication, talent and enthusiasm.''... Dr. Clark E. Myers, dean, Business Administration, took part in “Operation Dialogue'' conducted by the Presidents Association of the American Management Association at Indies House, Duck Key, May 23-24... Dr. John R, Beery, dean, School of Education, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Southeastern Educational Corporation. Offices of the South Florida Miami component of the Laboratory are located in South Miami, with Dr. Harry O. Hall, UM associate professor of education (on leave) as Component Director... Dr. Eugene H. Man, Dean of Research Coordination, spoke on “Honor Without Profit" as principal speaker for the Honors Day ceremonies at Florida Memorial College May 19... Dr. CasimerGrabowski, biology, discussed “The Fluid Problems of Embryos and Their Relationship to Morphogenesis" in a Symposium on General Mechanisms of Abnormal Development at the annual meeting of the Teratology Society at Estes Park, Colorado May 24-27...
