William H. Fisher, director of student housing, serves visitors a snack while Foster E. Alter, dean of men. explains some of the functions of his office to an interested listener. The new center went into operation this summer in conjunction with the University's revised organizational program. --------The Inside Story------------------------------. Franklin Williams, dean of students, following last Thursday’s abortive panty raid in the girls’ dorms. See story Page 4. See story on Page 16. “The fraternity system is founded on the solid rock of our fundamental right to choose our own friends,” said Stove Fisher, IFC president, defending a fraternity’s position in answer to the State University of New York’s ban of Greeks from its campuses. Phil Frieder, MICA president, speaking for independents, said, “I believe one should not do away with fraternities in any way, but rather to encourage them to abandon these supposed malpractices.” See editorial on Page 6 ______ Photo by Sumer PRETTY AS A PICTURE is Hurricane Honey No. 4. Barbara Altman. Born in Sarasota, Fla., "Bahs" is a 19-year-old sophomore. Her major is management and we’ll bet that, though she may not make a fortune, she’ll manage to do all right. This 5-foot 4V.i-inrh coed has her 118 pounds distributed in the right places. If “Babs" will strike a pose during tonight's half-time ceremonies of the Maryland game, Marvin Randell, Hurricane advertising manager, will pin her with an orchid. MOTHER PINS DAUGHTER into the same sorority during rushing this week. The mother is Mrs. Schwartz and the daughter is Maida. The elder member of Phi Sigma Sigma became the first mother in the history of the sorority to have her daughter pledged to the University chapter. However, this was only half the story. Photo« by Starncr FATHER PINS SON into same fraternity, and completes the cycle. In this case, Al Harum Sr. is the father and A1 Harum Jr. is the son. The elder member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon became the second father in the UM chapter’s records to have a son pledged to the same fraternity. The younger Harum is a student while Harum Sr. is a journalism instructor and newspaper publisher.
