Songs of the Christmas season were sung by the SAE’s to the dormitory women to get in step with the coming holidays. This group hi dreaming of a white Christinas, and a majority of them will be seeing snow when they arrive home in the North to spend the two-week vacation starting Wednesday. Tonight the Hurricagers battle the Connecticut State teacher» college at the coliseum. • Coach Andy Gustafson put the student body and the whole city of Miami at ease Wednesday evening when he announced that he had “no intention of leaving the University of Miami.” The decision by Gus came after a meeting with U-M President Bowman F. Ashe Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Ashe happily stated, “We like Coach The U-M head said that a 10-year agreement had been reached at the conference. No announcement was made concerning the amount of salary which the ex-Pitt star will receive under the new agreement. All week long it had been rumored that the popular Cane mentor was bound for Minnesota. The Gopher athletic director had publicly announced Wednesday morning that he had invited Gus to the Big Ten school to look over the setup. In his outright denial of leaving Miami, Coach Gustafson said, “There have been a lot of rumors that I am leaving Miami. I have no intention of leaving. I am going to stay with all these kids who have given me a GUSTAFSON great football team and the happiest year of my life.” It was obvious that the ex-Army aide was happy here in the deep South. He has stated many times how much he loves this climate. This is the second time in two-years that university has tried to woo the Hurricane leader away from the U-M. Last season his alma mater, Pittsburgh, sent out feelers in Gus’s direction. Many feared that the Minnesota offer would be too much for Miami's choice for Coach of the Year to pass up. To move into the Big Ten and direct a team with the prestige that the Gophers have is a chance that does not come every day. It is reported that he was offered some $20,000 to pack his bags and move into the mid-West. There is no doubt that one of the contributing factors in Gus's decision was the fine treatment given to him by Miami students and fans. ___ Photo by Fisher IT IS FITTING THAT TIIE ORANGE BOWL HONEY should bo this sweet-looking cheerleader. Barbara Earnest. The freshman rah-rah girl has been urging the Hurricanes on throughout the season and will be at her accustomed post come Jan. 1. Barbara is an education major and stands 5 feet 3 inches. Swimming is her hobby although she likes all sports. If our little cheer girl will take a little time out from leading yells at the basketball game tonight and come out on the court around halftime she will be pinned with an orchid by Ed Storin, Hurricane managing editor.
