The group is being presented by the Union program council and the show will begin at 8:00 p.m. As was true for the Jackie Gleason show, you are advised to bring blankets as there will be no chairs provided. Barbara Christopher, a real country girl, has worked with the Chad Mitchell Trio in concert and on National radio and television. The travels of Miss Christopher’s career have taken her throughout the southeast portion of the United States. She founded and headed a group of her own called “The Pierce Family Singers,” and then played the White Springs Folk Festival. She has played at the .Flick since last April, and has participated in opera, including light opera like Gilbert and Sullivan. Ron Kickasola, the man known for his six-string guitar, has worked at the Flick since its inception nearly four years ago. Ron’s fame stems from his work In composing very fine quartets and symphonies. He also worked UM To Board Plan By DAVE BROWN Hurricin* Staff Writer Last Friday afternoon, USG President Dennis Richard announced to a sparse crowd of three to five hundred persons that plans for negotiations concerning the Compulsory Board Plan had been completed. His announcement climaxed a week of anti-Board Plan Inside Excerpts from President’s Report, Page 4 Scope.................Page 5 Prof-file ........... Page 14 Ralph Renick .... Page 16 activities, which included a student-administration d e-bate and a Board Plan press Conference held by Richard to inform the news media of the weeks actions. As the crowd gathered on the Union Patio, Richard informed them of the events of the week. He detailed the preliminary negotiations which had taken place between Dr. William Butler, Vice President of Student Affairs, and himself. He assured the students that all involved parties were interested in reaching an equitable solution to the problem. Richard stated that he had met with student leaders and Dr. Butler for over four hours and had eaten with top level Administrators in the Mahoney Hall Cafeteria. During this meeting, he and Butler drew up a joint memorandum concerning the Compulsory Board Plan. In this memorandum, they agreed to review the Board Plan" and “discuss the possibility of developing additional flexibility and-or alternatives which will still honor Continued on Page 2 with the Miami Philharmonic and is currently teaching at the University of Miami, while continuing his own education in the area and talent of folk music. Ron, not only a composer of quartets and symphonies, has written music for “When You Are Old And Grey,” a well known poem which the trio performs. Mike Smith, the satirist of the group, plays a twelvestring guitar, and has worked at the Flick for over two years. Mike’s travels have taken him from coast to coast and throughout the Midwest. Mike is the composer of “Bird Avenue” and "Commercial” on Spanky and Our Gang’s first album. He has made a new record entitled “You Certainly Have Got A Pretty Fantastic Bod.” Presently, Mike is studying guitar under Juan Mercadal of the University of Miami. Ron and Mike share the vocal arranging for the group which has been together for the past four months. The Flick Trio engages in everything from folk music which is their specialty to bossa-nova, traditional ballads, or traditional music. Ron and Mike were here over the summer for the Program Council's Happening Show which was a big success. It was such a great show, that people were being turned away for seating in the upper lounge, and therefore it was decided to move the show out to the patio so that everyone would have a chance to see these very talented people entertain you. Coming events of the Program Council will include: a pop concert, art exhibits, contrasts in culture, Vietnam Week, double - feature movies, and a special Christmas Show entitled “Christmas Around The World,” featuring the University’s International Students. By MARY JOHNSTON Hurricane Reporter On Thursday, November 31, at the Miami Springs Villas, a dinner crowd of 600 watched the induction of the first four members into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame. Two greats in football and two in tennis were the inductees at the affair. The first member is the late Jack Harding. In 1937 “Spike” Harding replaced Irl Tubbs as head coach of the Hurricanes and kept this position until resigning in 1948 to devote his entire time to the job of Athletic Director. He served UM until his death in 1963. Coached by “Pop” Warner in 1923, Harding graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was head coach at St. Thomas College, now the University of Scranton, before coming to UM. In 1946 he led Miami to an Orange Bowl victory. Former halfback Eddie Dunn was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Dunn attended UM from 1936-38 and was captain of the Hurricanes in his senior year. He was elected to the Associated Press All Florida 11 and named All-SIAA. In 1939 Dunn joined the coaching staff and was head coach in 1943-44. The 1938 Ibis stated that Dunn’s “sweeping end slants are a byword with followers of Miami football.” The two tennis players inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame are Gardnar Mulloy and Doris Hart. Captain of the tennis team for three years, Gardnar Mulloy holds 31 major national tennis titles. While at Miami, Mulloy won the Eastern Inter-collegiate Tennis Championship, the Cuban International Championship in Havana, the National Doubles Championship and others. When he first came to UM, tennis was a “dead issue” but through his coaching and playing, Mulloy brought the team ‘ | "T in ¿p tne nation Tfr-wfaiamfil his, law degree from Miami-1938. Doris Hart attended UM from 1946-48. A member of the Hurricane Women's Varsity Team, she was a Forest Hills runner up in 1946 and, with Barbara Scofield, won the National Indoor Doubles Championship in that same year. The former US ambassador to Russia (1962-1966) is expected to be in Miami by January 31, in time for the February 1 beginning of second-semester classes. He would be the third top official to submit his resignation in recent days. Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara and Assistant Secretary of State Charles F. Frankel announced that they would be leaving government service shortly, McNamara to head the World Bank and Frankel to return to academic affairs at Columbia University. According to Dr. Vergil Shipley, “If Ambassador Kohler is coming to the University, this would undoubtedly be a major step in the University’s development of its Soviet Studies Program, it is a logical step in that our Soviet library collection is among the largest in the country. role in the University. Edited by the Office of Publications, the current report is a summation of the past five years (July 1, 1962 through June 30, 1967) by President Stanford. The stylish publication first probes the relationship between the university and the faculty. After a thoughtful study of how the administration relates to the faculty member, the actual tasks of teaching are analyîed. Dr. Stanford discusses tenure and concludes “tenure ought to be awarded only after the most searching analysis and evaluation of the candidate’s performance and promise. Where there is any doubt, it ought to be resolved against the candidate.
