Elections Decide Freshmen The 42nd Year, ZBT' Chi O Rank First At “Howl” Candidates (N 1IWICQH0 ^ heir Quali fi rations University of Miami, Coral Cables. Each of the girls in the Queen’s Court was introduced and received a corsage. The girls, first place winners, Zeta Beta ¡n ortjer fi0m fourth runner-up to first run-Tau in the fraternity division, Chi Omega sorority in the go-, Fjsherkeller Beth rority division, and Associated Uura Beckwith. Women Students for the independents. Master of Ceremonies Henry Barrow, from WIOD radio, presented the event for the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity, who organized the event. In spite of the rain, the Howl was held on the Student Union Patio, where participants joked, yelled, and slid their way through the competition. ZRT's winning entry was entitled “Trouble (•eorgia,” a musical parody of several Broadway routines. Uhi Omega’s “Ctrl from Chi O, U.N.C.L.E.” was a satire on the other organizations of UM’s Campus. AM'S' winning skit, entitled "How to Succeed in College without Really Trying,” exemplified the conflict between the Incoming Freshman and the spirit of AWS. Each of the top winners in the Hurricane Howl competition received fifty spirit points. Second place winners Alpha ell Epsilon Pi fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority, and Doo-I e y House, received forty points each for their entries. Third place winners Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Mon- Pelley, Claire Baas, and Clutching her red rose*, the new Queen stammered tier appreciation to the crowd. As site left the stage she was swani|H‘d by her sorority sisters and friends who smothered her with congratulations. In an interview with Julie immediately after the coronation, she revealed her thoughts upon receiving her crown. Her first reactions w'ere “Oh!” and "the other girls are much more qualified!” In response to a question about her duties, she replied, “I don't think anybody can rep-! resent spirit. I don't know why they picked me, but I’m very glad I was chosen. I’m proud ito have brought this honor to Kappa. I hope that I represent everybody, not just Kappa. I will feel like everybody else at the game . . . Election time is here again, and this time it's the fresh men who do the campaigning and voting. All of the candidates have obtained their petitions for candidacy and have had them signed. At least 100 freshmen signatures must be on each candidate's petition.
