Young Rascals Hit UM S Miami to TROMP Pittsburgh onight Young Rascals - at Whitten Union Tonight Tonight the USG Entertainment series, under the chairmanship of Steve Din-nerstein, will present the Young Rascals in concert. WFUN disc-jockeys, Steve Morgan and Chris Edwards, will he emceeing the show. The Young Kosruls became nationally known III I9fi.'«-(ift with their first hit», “I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart" anil “(iontl Covin.*’ The quartet, Eddie Bragati, Felix Caveliere, Gene Cornish, and Dino Danelli, met in 19G5 when Felix, the present spokesman for the group, decided to form his own group. Since their first date in February 1965 when they appeared at a small club In New Jersey, the Young Rascals have played at Harlow’s The final repercussions of the USG Council’s political battle was heard this Monday. President Dennis Richard delivered to the Council an address concerning the state of student government in the wake of the political struggle. Citing recent actions, he called for the Council to face the future with the problems of the student in mind. He stated, ‘‘This Council, the ordained representatives of the students, has wallowed in strife, division, and, worst of all, confusion. The storm is now over and the dust has just begun to settle. What happens now dei>ends upon the Council. “It can take the path of anti-progress and become hogged down in the aftermath. It can pour salt in already open wounds, for the furtherance of petty |»olitical ambitions, or this Council ran concern itself with the inline- Stanford Cabinet Kills USG’s VISA Program President Stanford’s cabinet has denied the Varsity International Sales Association the privilege to obtain discounts from area merchants for UM students. They based their decision on the policy; general solicitation of faculty, staff and students by salesmen Is not permitted except in the case of book publishers wishing to make professional contacts with faculty members. Permission for any other sollcita-t i o n must be obtained through tiie office of Vice President of Financial Affairs and Treasurer. Richard Krinunan, Secretary of Community Alfairs of USG, organized the program. He stated that he was led to believe by the administration that the program would have no trouble in passing. The major objection seemed to stem from the opinion that VISA was going to use the University's name when soliciting discounts. Krinzman stated “the organization had no intention of using the University’s name. The only connection, in name, is that the organization conceded to let each card printed to have on it University of Miami USG. What VISA had planned was to canvass the general area and after getting discounts for I'M students from various businesses they would sell a book listing these, and a eard, which would have to be show ii to receive discounts. "The Council has a great task ahead of It — that of unifying a troubled campus. ‘The decision is in your hands." Bob Dorlon, newly elected Freshman Representative, made a statement concerning his unopposed election to the Council. He stated, "I do not claim perfection for myself. I feel that It was an unfortunate thing that the other three candidates were disqualified. I will, however, try to represent the freshman class.” Another repercussion of the political dissent was heard, this time concerning llie two dismissed Cabinet memliers. Junior Mike Abrams introduced two resolutions of commendation for Randy Fem- mer, ex-Secretary of Traditions, and Ron Liehermau, ex-Secretary of Public Relation*. Fcmmer was cited for his outstanding job in planning and coordinating the Spirit Week, the March on Miami record, and various other spirit and tradition programs. His commendation was supported unanimously by the members of the Council. Ron Lieberman wag cited for his achievements as Sec-creeary of Public Relations and for the harmony which he created among various branches of USG with his many programs. Dissent ar-arose, however, from members of the Cabinet, with whom Lieberman worked most closely. Richard Krinzman, Secrc- tary of Community Affairs, and Louis Sperling, Secretary of the Lecture Series, spoke out against the manner In which Lieberman ran his | bureau and stated that lie did not create “harmony” as a member of the Cabinet. Sperling stated, “Ron Lieberman set up an inefficient power structure which didn’t get things done. In addition, the things he did get done were not within the realms of Public Relations which created much disturbance within the Cabinet.” Finally the question was called and the Council voted 8 for the motion, 3 against, and 5 abstentions. In the routine business of the Council, two resolutions were Introduced and the 67- Continuod on Page S and the Phone Booth in New' York City and have toured the country. They have also performed on major television shows including the "Ed Sullivan Show," "Hullaballoo," and "Where the Action Is." Not Just a vocal group. Ilia Rascals try to give a total musical performance. Among them they play a wide variety of Instruments. The Rascals will perform their hits at 8 :00 p.m. on the Whitten Memorial Union Patio. For security reasons the patio will be cordoned off. Admission will be by Student Identification only. Dates will be admitted on one ID card. In addition a Solex Moped Motor Bike will be given away free at the concert. Sigs Present Annual Derby Day The girls dorms have been warned! Their “morning after” silence is to be broken. At 9:3« a.in. Saturday, Oet. 21, the Car Parade commencing the Sigma Chi Derby I>ay will begin from the starting point behind the LC Building and make its way around the dorms. At the final destination, the track field, the participating sororities, under the direction of their Sigma Chi coaches, will compete for a number of trophies. The girls, in Derby Day theme clothes representing Comic Strips, will participate in such activities as mud fights, tricycle racing, and bamboo pole riding. At the end of the day the bruised bodies will relax at an open mixer to be given at the Sigma Chi House. Entertainment will be provided by the “Shags.” “lei'» 1rs this one on for size!'
