The Miami Hurricane Vol. XXXII University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., May 10, 1957 No. 23 Business School ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ State Student Leaders SOMETHING TO CHEER ABOUT is on the minds of the newly selected cheerleading squad for 1S57-58. Kneeling are (1. to r.) Helen Dyer, Pat Crawford, captain, and Kathy Hammock. Standing (I. to r.) are Gayle Jenkins, Barbara Rohrer and Carol Bald- win. The coeds were selected by i at the conclusion of the Varsity_____________________ competition. Pep Club sponsored the clinic which was conducted from April 23 through last Friday. Karen Wagner, former captain, conducted the tryouts. LOOKING OVER UM publications on the last day of the recent photojournalism conference*, held here by the American Society of Magazine Photographers, are three top lensmen and two editors of student publications. (L. to r.) Arnold Newman, Fred Por- ter, Hurricane managing editor, Ernest Haas, David Douglas Duncan, and Tempo editor Art Cohen. The three photographers are among the country’s top free lancers; Duncan and Newman are former UM students. Steinbach about this year’s summer sessions, on Page 4. “When men don’t gripe about something, look out, for trouble is brewing,” says Mike Kieserman in the Letters column, Page 6. “If it goes in Detroit it will go anywhere,” said UM vocalist Darryl Roberts about his new record release. Eighteen-year-old Angela is a freshman majoring in human relations, and originally comes from Curundu, Canal Zone. She is 5 feet 2 inches tall, with brown eyes and brown hair. If Angela will drop Up to The Hurricane office this afternoon at 3:3d she will be presented with the traditional orchid by Leonard Rubin, Hurricane editorial page editor. i
