One of these girls is the 1M7 Ibis Photo by Fruhmsn Queen. The others will appear as princesses in the yearbook to be published in May. About 220 girls showed up for Tuesday night’s Judging in the upper lounge—and the ethereal procession was a sight for sore eyes for weary second floor habitues. APPLAUSE GREETS Mary B. Merritt, dean of women emeritus, as she speaks to the crowd which gathered last Thursday for “The Panhellenic Hour," naming ceremony for the new Panhellenic Building. The building, now under construction, will be named for Miss Merritt. Principal speakers at the ceremony were Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson, UM president, and Dr. Bertha Foster, dean emeritus of the Mnsie School. -------The Inside Story------------------------- What They Are Saying ... “Some of the roughest country in the world,” comments freshman Tony Soagravo about the area of Burma that he plans to explore with two other students. The feature is on Pago 9. “It is imperative that students have their letters before they leave,” warns Dr. Ralph S. Boggs, director of the International Center. The Page 12 story is addressed to students who plan to spend the coming holidays out of the country and who must arrange their re-entry before leaving. “All that can be hoped is that the dorm residents won’t hold against MRHA what wasn’t its fault,” opines a Pago 8 editorial on the dance reservation mixup. “Is the country to turn away from its Clintons with a backward glance of rather routine indignation, or are we to stand behind the law of the land?” asks another Page 6 editorial. “Briefly, the story revolves around a fast-living, loose-loving bachelor and his various .entanglements with his harem of New York’s loveliest and most eligible females,” writes Drama Critic Joan Mallion about the Ring’s “Tender Trap.” The review is on Page 2. “I remember a courtly, pleasant little man snapping his baton at quick march time in front of my high school band, as lively and enthusiastic as any young musician,”—that’s part of Editor Marshall Shapo's reflections about the late Henry Fillmore. His Debris is on Page 8. “The fall election was not by secret ballot, did not have enough signs indicating where the polls were, and there were no separate voting tables or booths,” were grounds for a resolution presented against the election board chairman, cited in a Pag* 2 story. “We are certainly proud of the confidence displayed by the council and their evidence of belief in the future development of our medical research program,” comments Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson. UM President, in a Page 3 story about a conditional federal grant of nearly a million dollars to the Medical School. “THE YELLOW ROSE of Texas"—freshman Barbara Sacha—is Hurricane Honey No. 19. The 5-foot one-half inch, black-haired, blue-eyed coed hails from Waco, Tex. A business education major, she wants to enter the business or fashion world. If Barbara will appear at the Carnival Dance at Eaton Hall tonight at 19:30, Joe Mayball, Hurricane circulation manager, will pin her with the traditional orchid.
