Story On Page 2 Feverish Deliberation Highlights Mickey Mouse Meeting Tuesday By BETSY LISS Hurricane Copy Editor After feverish deliberation on what S0G Treasurer Dick Knight termed a “Mickey Mouse” situation, the Senate decided Tuesday to attempt building a better mousetrap in regard to the freshman orientation program. Action began when Barbara Siegle (AC—Arts and Sciences), chairman of the Grievance Committee, included in her report six recommendations for improving orientation: 1) Retain orientation course framework and credit offered, but concentrate on bringing subject contents up to academic standards of the University. 2) Add to subject matter the roles and responsibilities of the student in the student community. 3) Add subject matter discussing how the student should relate his own values to values of others on this campus. 4) Mandate SBG President Leroy Howe to appoint a committee to write material dealing with these subjects. 5) Recommend to the administration that students be added to the present orientation committee which consists of administrators and faculty members. 6) Mandate the Orientation Survey Committee to begin work on a semester seminar program to be given on a voluntary basis and conducted by student leaders.
