Liberty Forum won all top four SBG posts, and Student Action Association made a near-sweep of the senatorial and governor positions. By RONALD LEVITT Murricanr New« ftditor Bill Merritt (Liberty Forum) ran almost 150 votes ahead of his party to win the Student Body Government presidency in Tuesday and Wednesday’s elections, while Student Action Association took a clear majority in the SBG Senate. The other three top SBG posts were taken by Liberty Forum with substantial majorities. Merritt, who was behind 100 votes on Main Campus, was an easy victor as he piled up a 4-1 lead on North Campus and the Law School. Final tallies gave Merritt 1,556 votes against 1,234 for Jerry Dangler, SAA’s presidential candidate. According to Charles Liebman, election board chairman, 2,802 students went to the polls this year. The voting failed to match last year when 2,864 students set an all-time voting record. Liberty Forum's overwhelming support on North Campus pulled the other top three SBG posts to its side despite heavy-setbacks on Main Campus. Bill Poznak (LF) won the vice-presidency by a 93-vote margin. Poznak tallied 1,411 votes to John Corrigan’s 1,318. Corrigan, who pulled the highest vote among the SAA candidates, lost what appeared to be a decisive victory when the Engineering School went almost solidly for the Forum. Secretarial and treasurer races were also decided by the North Campus vote. Patti Harmon (LF) received 1,402 votes against SAA’s Anne Lowe who piled up 1,298 ballots. Tony Perdomo (LF) won the treasury post with 1,406 votes against Larry Friedman’s 1,269. SAA carried a strong majority of the Senate taking 15 of the 20 contested seats, while Liberty Forum put in three engineering senators unopposed. The Senate lineup for next year will list 15 SAAs, 8 Forum supporters and three independents from the Schools of Law, Music and Medicine, phis four freshman solons to be elected next fall. In the School of Arts and Sciences, Nancy Egan (LF) defeated Lynn Baumrock (SAA), 415-361, for the governorship while SAA took the remaining four school posts.
