Group Property Insurance Plan A Success— 17 Hotels to Share $108,000. Chairman Paul C. Sheeline (left) accepts $108,000 check from Albert Tahmoush, Chairman of Frank B. Hall. The check represents volume discount earned in 1978 on InterContinental's Group Property Insurance Plan. During 1977, Intercontinental, together with its brokers, Frank B. Hall & Co. and American International Underwriters (AIU), developed a worldwide property insurance program avail- able to most hotels in the Inter*Continental group. The principal feature of the program is to provide the participating hotels with a very broad coverage of property and business interruption insurance on an “all risks” basis at lower cost. The economics inherent in the mass buying approach plus the natural physical diversification of the Intercontinental properties allow volume discounts on insurance premiums. Last year the volume discount was 15% and amounted to $108,000 which was received recently from AIU and will be distributed to the 17 hotels which now participate in the plan. In the coming months the InterContinental Insurance department will contact hotels not now in the plan to encourage their joining in order that they may also enjoy the benefits of greater coverage at lower cost. Hotels interested in more information about the plan may write to Eugene C. Auer, InterContinental Insurance Manager, Pan Am Building, New York, New York 10017. From the President As you are all aware, 1978 was Inter* Continental’s most successful year to date. In order to maintain our pre-eminent position in the international hotel field, each of us must continue to stress quality of product and service and professionalism in the way we go about doing our jobs. “Shaving corners” to “save” money, while sometimes appropriate in order to meet budgets, cannot be accepted by us if we are to maintain and enhance the image and reputation we have built for ourselves worldwide as a first class/ deluxe hotel chain. The most important single measure of our success is and will be the number of repeat guests that we are able to attract to our hotels, especially in face of ever strengthening competition in nearly all of our markets. Building each hotel’s reputation on quality of product and service will permit us to meet this competition, and provide a base for long term professional growth for each of us. Hans G. Sternik Children Celebrated at the Vier Jahreszeiten In celebration of the International Year of the Child, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten feted 250 children from Munich’s international community at a very special party. Dressed beautifully and colorfully in their native costumes, the children did justice to the large buffet prepared for them, and delighted to entertainment including clowns and magicians. Despite their widely diverse backgrounds—from Andorra to Zambia— the children demonstrated a cheerful and natural harmony that was an inspiration to every adult in attendance. Hyesun from Korea and Patrick from the United States are shown with Sous Chefs Peter Scholz and Josef Dechant at the Vier Jahreszeiten’s children’s party honoring the International Year of the Child. €3* ¥ l I ^fAS634j, A€d,
