No. 4 March 1, 1940 PM AMERICAN AIRWAYS COMPANY Pacific Division MA1NTENMCE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES' ‘ N E W S LETTER (Your Editor - ’’Swede” Rothe) THE “WINNAH t A long and bitterly contested issue is now over - Our literary waif now has the dignity of on identity - After a most heated controversy among the members of the Selection Committee, Mr. ”Sig” Hansen’s suggestion ’’The Typhoon” was finally chosen for the award* ”Sig”, as a result, will be awarded the ’’Rusty Rite” kit and yo ’’News Letter” will henceforth bo ’’The Typhoon”. Tfiie reprint Mr. Hansen’s suggestion note which gives reasons for the final choice of the selected name: ”My suggestion for a name for our employees’ newspaper is the IJ/phoon, as the Pacific Division is theonly place where typhoons are known, it would readily be known as a Pacific Division publication. The Atlantic has its hurricanes. The South Atlantic its pomperos.” ’’Typhoon” is truly grateful to all you fellows who submitted names and likewise to the fellows who helped pick the final winner. We appreciate the favorable comment we occasionally hear regarding our effort and don’t listen to the other. So keep right on calling at the office, boys, with any and all suggestions to make "Typhoon” the biggest blast of breeze in this Division. Confucius’ son say: "Old man talk too mucho" RETROGRESSION Our effort for this issue can pretty well be classified as bungling banality, as Ye Ed. has been vacationing this last month at yo old family homestead "Muddy Moado ws.” Frantic attempts to browbeat, bamboozle, or cajole some guileless soul into partnership on "ye Staff" met with no success, therefore, such scanty material as we have been able to hastily muster must comprise this issue; however, by next issue "Typhoon" will be in the groove again, a regular raging, roaring zephyr. Chief Engineer Visits — Mr. A. A. Priester, Chief Engineer for PAA, paid Treasure Island a three day visit last month. During his stay Mr. Priester gave the members of tho Division Engineer*s staff and tho Flight Engineers a two-hours talk on developments in the aviation industry, and an outline of our ships of tho future. Those attending thoroughly enjoyed tho talk. Shop Superintendent Due Back Soon — Johnny Boyle is due back from his factory familiarization trip around the 8th of this month. During his absence, Chief Inspector Nash has kept the "conveyer belt" moving in a way that -would bring a gleam to the eye of "old Simon" himself, so that Johnny should step light back t© his place at the throttle and oil can with no effort.
