February-March, 1965 Summer Schedule Capacity Sets Industry Records Pan Am will offer 256 Jet Clipper flights across the Atlantic every week this summer, setting new airline industry peaks for frequency, lift and number of nonstop and direct services. The transatlantic airlift would have capaciy for more than 36,000 passengers a week, 17 per cent more than in the previous record-breaking summer. The increases will be implemented in two phases, the first on April 25, and the second on June 1 when peak scheduled capacity will be offered. Pan Am services will link 17 United States cities with 24 cities throughout Europe. Pan Am Jet Clippers will take off on transatlantic flights at the average rate of one every 35 minutes, with 129 eastbound and 129 westbound flights. Service will be increased on virtually all routes. Nonstop Jets Set for Interchange ^ Agreements have been signed by Panagra, Pan Am, and National Airlines to provide new nonstop jet services from both the East and West Coasts of the United States to points on the West Coast of South America. The three carriers are proposing both new services and amendment of their present, interchange and through flight agreements to adapt American-flag air services to the requirements of the jet age. Since* 1947 Pan Am and Panagra have been operating interchange providing-through single-plane service between Miami and points on the West Coast of South America. In 1955, operations over National’s Miami-New York route were included to provide single-plane service between New York and points on Panagra’s routes in South America. Under the new agreements, which are subject to government approval, the three carriers propose: 1. Inaugurating through-plane service from San Francisco and Los Angeles to points on the West Coast of South America and Buenos Aires with nonstop (Continued on Page Two) John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, will provide 86 flights a week to Europe. These will include three nonstop flights a day to London, two daily nonstop to Paris, and daily nonstop flights to Rome, Frankfort, Amsterdam and Shannon. In addition, two of the daily London flights will continue to Frankfurt, and two Paris flights to Rome, giving Frankfurt and Rome three daily services from New York alone. Continue Round World Daily Pan Am flights from New York also will serve Copenhagen, Munich and Stuttgart. Jet Clippers from New York will also fly to Keflavik, Glasgow, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Santa Maria, Lisbon, Nice, Barcelona, Vienna and Belgrade. Two of the daily flights to Europe will continue through the Middle East, and one will proceed to the Orient and around the world. The first direct transatlantic air service to Berlin, begun last summer by Pan Am, will be increased to three times a week for the summer. These direct flights are in addition to Pan Am’s (Continued on Page Two) CARIBBEAN WELCOME . . . More than 60,000 cheering Haitians welcomed 100 guests aboard Pan Am Jet Clipper inaugural to Port au Prince—the first jet to land on the airport's new runway. President Francois Duvalier and other government officials were on hand to greet the group. Current program calls for extension of runway to eventual 9,000-foot length and completion of modern terminal building this Spring. (See story on Page 4.)
