Normally all such reports are passed through the organization to the immediate supervisor of the individual responsible. “ Many of your Company’s management people during their review of these reports have often wished they could give special recognition to the people who have done the most outstanding jobs, something that would be more than that normally given, and something that would focus attention throughout the Company on the job performed. “ This is the primary purpose of the new program. “ To the extent that it encourages all of us to be more aware of the importance of making our service to customers superior to that of our competitors, it will also serve a secondary purpose. “ Since I will personally be one of the members of the Award Committee, I look forward to an opportunity for seeing more of these good reports than ever before, and I'm sure this will be one of the most pleasant jobs attached to my office.” __ ^ £ Gray BOTTLE FOR BABY. This particular baby, being fed by Vickie Forbes of JFK Cargo, is a 550 pound baby elephant flown from Thailand. The youthful pachyderm took a brief lunch break at the JFK “animalport” before continuing on to its new home at the Denver Zoo. Quick Change 7 2 7 s To Join O u r Fleet Pan American will add a new dimension to its cargo services next summer when it takes delivery of four Boeing 727QC (Quick Change) passenger cargo airc ra ft as p a rt of its order of nineteen 727s. The 727QC is the newest ver sion of the Boeing 727 short to medium range a irc ra ft and is specifically designed for rapid conversion to all/cargo, all/passenger or combination passeng er/cargo configurations. Com plete conversion to any of these configurations can be made in less than 30 minutes. The ability to use these a ir c ra ft for transporting freig h t a t night during the peak hours of demand for cargo airc raft, and then to convert them to passen ger use during prim e daylight hours, will give Pan Am flexi bility in its operations. The 727QC will minimize the short haul requirem ents for the larger Boeing 707-321C je t freighter. The 727QC will provide a main deck cargo volume of 3,280 cubic feet plus the two standard lower deck cargo com partments total ing 890 cubic feet. In an all cargo configuration the a irc ra ft can carry a full payload of 41,000 pounds a t ranges of more than 1,400 miles. To convert the a irc ra ft to all cargo configuration the hatracks w ith th eir passenger service units are folded up against the ceiling to allow maximum cargo carrying space. The seats and galley equipment mounted on pallets are moved out the 91 inch high by 134 inch wide forw ard cargo door and the cargo, preloaded on pallets, moved in and locked down. The 727QCs will be used in the Company’s Intra-G erm an Service and on its Caribbean routes. Delivery schedule calls for Pan Am to receive two 727QCs next July and two in August, 1966. The addition of the four a ir c ra ft to our fleet will bring to 17 the num ber of je t cargo a ir c ra ft purchased by the Company. We have taken delivery of 13 Boeing 707-321C J e t F reighters.
