President Juan T. Trippe announced the election of Roger Lewis as Executive Vice President—Administration, of John C. Leslie as Vice President and Assistant to the President, of Samuel F. Pryor as Vice President, and of John B. Gates as Vice President—Development. Mr. Lewis will coordinate Executive Department activities with respect to the Atlantic, Latin American and Pacific-Alaska Divisions, System Traf-fic/Sales, the Technical Assistance Program, company mobilization and the CRAF program, and the company’s investment in Panagra. On matters relating to interna- B-377's Start New Honolulu-Samoa Service A new fortnightly service between Honolulu and American Samoa began September 30th. A B-377 will leave Honolulu every other Wednesday night, arriving at Pago Pago Thursday morning. The eastbound trip will be made on Friday. This service replaces that formerly provided with a DC-4 that operated to Pagö Pago from Nandi. As a result of this more direct routing, fares to Samoa will be substantially reduced. One-way tourist fares from the West Coast to Pago Pago will be cut from $460 to $248. Mr. Gates will supervise the development of overseas travel and tourist facilities and will coordinate Executive Department activities with respect to Intercontinental Hotels Corporation. He will report to the President, and in the latter’s absence, to the Executive Vice President —Administration. Before joining Pan American in 1955, Mr. Lewis had served from March, 1953, as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force. Prior to his government service he had been a Vice President and member of the Administrative Committee of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation in charge of sales for all of the company’s divisions. Mr. Lewis’ entire business career has been in aviation. After graduation from Stanford University in 1934, he went to work in the metal shop of Lockheed Aircraft, working up through production control and purchasing. During World War II he was director of material. Mr. Leslie has been in the aviation industry since 1928 and has served Pan American in executive capacities in engineering, operations and administration since 1929, two years after the company was founded. As division engineer for Pan American’s Pacific Division in 1935 he developed the long-range flight techniques that made possible the first commercial air service across the Pacific and later became operations manager of that division. During World War II, Mr. Leslie was manager of Pan American’s Atlantic Division and was responsible for the air- line’s extensive war-time operations to Europe and Africa. He was made a Vice President in 1945 in charge of the Atlantic Division and in 1946 was transferred to System headquarters in New York. Mr. Pryor joined Pan American in 1941 to head the company’s Airport Development Program and directed the construction of 50 strategic air bases in 16 countries in South America and Africa. In recognition of this work he was awarded the Medal for Merit. Mr. Pryor holds a Ph. D degree from Yale University, class of 1921, an honorary LL.D from Marietta University, and an (Continued on Page 3)
