J 4th YEAR PACIFIC-ALASKA DIVISION Pah American World Airways PACIFIC-ALASKA DIVISION WlfPPEP Read From California to Calcutta, From Alaska to Australia 17th YEAR PAA HAS FLOWN IN ALASKA Voi. 5, No. 9 PUBLISHED BY THE EMPLOYES OF PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS May 19, 1949 San Francisco Ball Team Maintains .500 Average PAA Tossers Still Rate Good Chance To Cop League Crown Pan American’s San Francisco softball team was playing .500 ball after four games in the San Mateo Recreation League. Still rated one of the top outfits in the league, the PAA nine has dropped a pair of heartbreakers. On their first trip out the flyers wound up on the short end of an 8 to 3 game with the Peninsula Social Club. Tedrick and Bowling shared the mound duties in this contest, giving up 10 hits between them-Ted Morrison wielded the big stick for the losers. A basehit barrage brought a 13 to 2 win in the second game against the Eimacs. Emmett Costello and Jim Thornton hit round trippers to pace the team along with Hank En-gledinger, who garnered four base knocks. Pan American again tasted victory in the third game, as Ted Bowling tossed a two-hitter in the face of the San Bruno A. C., winning 6 to 2. Hank Engledinger and John Flannagen hit for the circuit. Moesteri’s Sport Shop gave PAA a set back in the fourth contest, 3 to 0. Ray Tedrick allowed only three hits, but you can’t win ball games without runs. Inability to hit in the pinch cost PAA the game. Crowds have been disappointing so far. Pan American has a really top class outfit, and a little more screaming from the stands is all they need to come through in these close contests. Plan now to see the boys in action. It’s a guaranteed good evening! The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has approved a plan for erection throughout San Francisco of signs directing motorists to the San Francisco Airport. The state will place similar signs on state highways within the city. Take a New Look—The Schedule's Been Changed The softball schedule has been changed since it was last published in the Clipper.
