C, Reynolds, returning last week from a complete inspection of our Island stations. Mr. Reynolds brought word of the expanded war job of our Division, which will exact more in skill, force, and willingness to sacrifice than we have yet been called upon to give. Our planes will carry the men who make decisions on which the lives of many thousands—Victory itself--will depend. They will carry, on speeded up schedules, the supplies most urgently needed in coming vital conflicts. Our assignment will require greater utilization of equipment, a faster and more eager pace in maintenance, the best there is in each man and woman worker in the Transpacific family. OUR MEN IN FRONT LINES.... HONOLULU PAA MAINTENANCE PRAISED BY COimNDSR SQUADRON TEN FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TSL...NOV.10...Paul Machado, Chief of plane Service at HNL, Warren Oakes, Assistant Chief, and five mechanics engaged in Plane Service there, have received a citation for outstanding service from Commander T. E. Gillespie, U.S.N., Commander Air Transport Squadron TEN. THIS CITATION IS IN THE FORM OF A LETTER ADDRESSED TO DIVISION MANAGER, PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS1 TRANSPACIFIC DIVISION, AND STATES THAT THESE MEN "MERIT RECOGNITION AND COMMENDATION AS A RESULT OF THEIR COOPERATIVE ASSISTANCE AND THE CONTRIBUTION OF CONSIDERABLE PERSONAL TIME IN THE COMPILATION OF A TRAINING SYLLABUS FOR P3M-3R MAINTENANCE CREWS”. THOSE RECEIVING THE CITATION IN ADDITION TO MACHADO AND OAKES ARE: JOE DE LEON, ALLEN ARNOLD, L. V. DES FAYES, WILLIAM SANFORD AND DONALD DENNIS. (continued on Page 7. For our men at the island stations, Mr. Reynolds had the deepest and most heartfelt praise. ’’They are in the front lines,” he said, ’’and it is for us to support them with the supreme efforts of our lives.” DO IT NOW---- Meanwhile the tide of Division spirit rises. Division Engineer Taylor tells of crews that say ’’let’s get that ship out tonight. Let’s not wait until tomorrow. Forget the schedule.” MEN ARE WILLING.... * During an inspection trip of SOPAC,Division Engineer Brimhall forecasts, ’’Increasingly greater utilization of present facilities.” This he bases on his close contact with the men who are doing the job in the South Pacific area, on actual count of planes serviced during his inspection visit. From the Navy through Commander T. E. Gillespie of Air Transport Squadron TEN comes a citation for merit of a key Maintenance group. This, of coursa reflects credit on the Division as a whole.
