Generally, Form W-2 is being mailed to the last known address of the employees. In some instances, reliable addresse are not available, so if you have not received your Withholding Statement by February 5, call Mr. Flanagan on Extension 393, Shop Building, Room 226, and he will furnish a copy of your statement. At stations other than San Francisco inquiries should be addressed to the Manager, Accounting, attention Payroll Section. Aikens is First to Win Private Pilots License Via Panair Flying Club John Aikens, left, of Flight Engineering is the first member of the Panair Cooperative Flying Club, Inc. to earn his private pilots license. Naturally there are other members of the club who have earned their license since the innovation of the club, but they had had a little previous flying experience. Aikens is the first one to have started from scratch. He had not had a lesson when he joined the club. Coach John Gertridge The Panair Club basketball team which has reached the finals for the San Mateo County championship is coached by Johnny Gertridge (left). Gertridge, a graduate of Stanford University, is a member of the operations department assigned to the scheduling unit. "Cannonball" Three Trips A Week Slated for Manila A program of “cannonball” Clipper service between the United States and the Orient, which will triple present schedules and reduce travel time approximately 24 hours, was announced this week by the Pacific-Alaska Division of Pan American World Airways. Beginning Monday, February 10, the current Weekly service between San Francisco and' Manila will be increased to thrice-weekly in each direction. In addi-(Continued on Page 2) The Panair Club’s crack Pan American Airways basketball team moved into a play-off for the San Mateo County “B” title this week in the annual county tournament being held in Redwood City. They have been victorious in three straight elimination games, and must face one more outstanding Redwood City team for the title this week. BULLETIN! The Panair Club’s county championship bound basketball team is no longer championship bound. The club’s “title” trip has been cancelled due to an unexpected narrow 36 to 38 defeat in the finals at Redwood City Thursday nite! The champs, another concern in the transportation business, are the Black and White Cab Co. of Palo Alto. Big Bill Cowden of operations and Walt Johnson of maintenance have been spearheading the Panair drive for the crown. Cowden, former all-American from Stanford, has been a hawk on defense. Taking the ball off the back board time and time again, splitting the mesh from 30 or 40 feet out, and playing an all around terrific floor game has been the principal reason for PAA’s string of victories. But he has been ably assisted by a lad named Walt Johnson. Another hawk on (Continued on Page 8) MAKE ROOM FOR PANAIR CLUB, HONOLULU Panair Club, Honolulu! Let all other clubs mover over, because that’s the newest addition to the family. Fifteen representatives of various departments met on January 13 and decided to establish a Panair Club, patterned after the Panair Club in good ol’ SFX. The former Panair Beach Club will be discontinued. In order to get the organization under way, the group voted to ask Hal Graves, station manager, to appoint temporary officers. They are: A. W. Hand, industrial relations, president. Phil Chase, maintenance, vice president. Mrs. Virginia Ahrendt, medical, secretary. Miss Margaret Potter, industrial relations, secretary. Vernon Smith, communications, treasurer. * It was also decided to select a temporary committee for the club, including: Warren Elsener, district traffic office; F. G. Layton, operations; E. O. Wiener, ramp crew; W. H. Triesch, services of supply, and E. R. Cantrill, passenger service. The above mentiond will draft a plan for presentation and vote by all HNL employees for acceptance or rejection. The plan will include: 1. An outline of the objectives of the club. 2. An organization plan. 3. A set of bylaws or regulations governing the administration and functioning of the club. Nomination of names of personnel who would be elected by ballot as permanent officers.
