April 1991__________________________________________________PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAVE issue 3 Pan Am/United marketing alliance continues on course April 3 marked the beginning of the Pan Am/United marketing alliance. The agreement allows members of Pan Am’s WorldPass to earn miles on United and United’s Mileage Plus members to earn miles on Pan Am. Each company’s mileage program now offers expanded awards — the WorldPass awards program offers all destinations served by United, and the Mileage Plus awards program includes international destinations served by Pan Am. The strategy is to entice United passengers to fly on Pan Am’s international routes which are not served by United, including South America. On May 1, code sharing will begin on United flights to Miami from Chicago, Denver and San Francisco feeding Pan Am’s Latin American operations to Rio, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago. Customers will be able to enjoy one-stop check-in for baggage, boarding passes and seat assignments all the way through to their final destination. Both carriers are preparing an in-flight announcement highlighting this advantage. Additionally, Clipper Class passengers on Pan Am’s international segments will be automatically upgraded to First Class on their United connecting segment, subject to availability. Triple Miles for South America...Although the Triple Mileage program to/from and within the U.S. and Europe ended on March 28, WorldPass members who fly Pan Am or Pan Am Express between the U.S. and South America or within South America will continue to receive triple miles on every flight Segment through April 30, 1991. Fourth Quarter survey results show marked improvement The Fourth Quarter North Atlantic passenger survey results conducted by Plog Research, Inc. not only indicate significant improvement in many areas of service, but in some areas, Pan Am service ratings are at the highest level in the three-year trending period. Compared with the six other airlines included in the study (American, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Swissair and TWA), highlights of Pan Am’s performance in the survey results include: • A year over year comparison reflects improvement in all service areas except “audio,” which was unchanged. • Data indicates check-in efficiency, flight attendants, food quality, baggage delivery, on-time performance and overall flight are not only improving but narrowing the gaps. Look Inside Safety and Security............2 Flight Service Procedures......3 TITA...........................3 In-Flight Provisioning.........4 Crew Scheduling................5 Aircraft Maintenance...........5 Station News...................5 Airline Performance............5 Duty Free......................6 Employee Benefits ............ 6 • On-time performance and overall flight ratings are both at the highest level since First Quarter 1988. • Pan Am’s share of passengers seated in First Class ties with British Airways for the highest percentage. • Pan Am has the highest share of business travel among U.S. airlines. FLIGHT SERVICE HANDBOOK REVISION UPDATE FSHB Revision 97 is the most current revision.
