Right Services Monthly Operational Bulletin To: All Flight Attendants From: System Director Flight Attendants & Cabin Services Volume IX, Issue 1 January 1979 TO ALL FLIGHT ATTENDANTS : With 1979 come fresh starts, renewed hopes for the future, and vigorous anticipation of what the new year has in store for Pan Am. Now operating in a totally different environment from past years, Pan Am is adapting to the competition generated by the shift in governmental policy. This competition - not to be viewed as a threat, but rather a challenge -keeps us constantly dynamic rather than static, innovative rather than changeless. Those of us in In-Flight Services have an especially powerful role in meeting the challenges of 1979. The In-Flight Services Department will continue to maintain a dynamic approach throughout the year. Recruiting is in full swing and the first class of new hires began their training on January 10. Dramatic changes in the form of new service concepts offered to our passengers are in evidence on our aircraft. We now offer Clipper Class in addition to our full service economy. On our 747SP's the Sleeperette with its reclining seat and adjustable footrest has been introduced to our first class passengers. In addition, many of you have been involved in developing a new first class service. Although still in the planning stages, it promises to be a service which you can be proud to offer. And plans for the twelve Lockheed L1011 aircraft will continue with you taking an active part in equipment location and service procedures. As always, the key to our success is the CUSTOMER. We have an obligation to provide the most comfortable flight and the best service possible. Just as important as comfort and service are the smiles and acts of kindness which our passengers deserve. Since you have the first line of communication with them, you have many opportunities to provide the "human" element. I've met many of you personally and hope to meet more of you in 1979. Having been impressed with your talents, dedication, and enthusiasm, I feel confident you will continue to impress our passengers and in so doing, make many good things happen for the Company. Surely 1979 will have its share of surprises, but one thing is certain - it will be a year of intense competition in the airline marketplace. The best efforts of every employee will be required to improve our competitive position, and to assure Pan Am's place as a leader in the airline industry. With all of us working together, Pan Am will not only be considered an important figure in aviation history, but the airline of the future and one that our competitors will emulate. Best wishes, John M. Holland, Jr. System Director-Flight Attendants and Cabin Services Acct ßoy: J-kSr
