our employees.and friends July 5, 1945 PAN AMERI PACIFIC News of the Company and aircraft indust Voi. 1, Ne* 20 — San Francisso PAN AMERICAN AWARDED ADDITIONAL ROUTES THROUGH EUROPE TO INDIA AMERICAN EXPORT AND TRANSCONTINENTAL AND WESTERN AIRLINES ALSO GET ATLANTIC ROUTES , : . .* • . •' "Oii' " ... . - 3 * ' The Civil Aeronautics Board, with the approval of the President of the United States, announced on July 5, 1945 its decision in the North Atlantic Route Case whereby Pan American World Airways Atlantic routes were extended and America© Export Airlines and Transcontintal and Western Airlines were awarded others. The certificates issued, were all for a period of seven years. « :*• - . . * * 'U . * • - -'** ' * " Before the new routes can be operated, agreements must be reached between the various countries concerned. This decision by the Civil Aeronautics Board, was the first to be announced since its hearings on Post War International Routes. Other decisions expected in the near future but as yet unannounced are those dealing with the Pacific, Hawaiian, Central and Latin American and South Atlantic routes. Recognizing thct airlines engaged in both domestic and international transportation would have a competitive advantage over the purely international carrier, the CAB authorized Pan American to conduct operations on its Atlantic Routes to Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington in addition to New York. This, the CAB stated, would minimize the competitive disadvantages to some extent. , . , • The certificates awarded follows: in the N*rth Atlantic case provide in general as fllxoso *r is.it ot ilo vd sevizi Aoinp Pan American World Airways* existing route to ^»ynes^, Ireland was extended to London and then on through Europe, the Near East to Calcutta, India via Brussels, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest, Istanbul, Ankara, Beirut, Bagdhcd, Teheran, and Karachi. It is anticipated, according to the announcement, that some schedules from Vienna ta Istanbul will serve Budapest and Bucharest while others will serve Belgrade. Furthermore, it is anticipated that certain services from Ankara to Karachi will serve Teheran while others Beirut and Bagdhad. Pan American’s certificate to Lisbon and Marseilles was amended to include Barcelona.
