PAA Reaches All-Time Record, Trippe Reports In carrying out its war assignments, Pan American World Airways last year-transported the largest number of passengers in its history and hauled a record volume of freight, Juan T. Trippe, president of the international airline, said in the company’s 16th annual report. Looking to the future when bigger and better equipment will bring the world closer together, Mr. Trippe said, “New Clippers will be twice as big, will carry more than 100 passengers and provide economical travel to all continents at tariffs within reach of the average man. World travel will no longer be a luxury. The new fleet will make overnight neighbors of the billions of people in the countries throughout the world. Best Possible Service “The system has continued to provide important wartime connections throughout Latin America. Opening of service followed completion of improvements to the capital’s Melilla Field, which has been enlarged and modernized to meet specifications required for safe operations of the speedy international Clipper planes. Formerly served by Pan American flying boats, schedules to Montevideo were suspended several years ago when landplanes were placed in operation on the major routes between the Americas.
