Dr. Santiago Trujillo Gomez (left) Colombian minister of works, is shown decorating President Trippe with the Cross of Boyanca, rank of commander. The presentation teas made in behalf of Lieut. General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, president of Colombia. Juan T. Trippe, president of PAA, who Ramon Guizado, decorated Mr. Trippe with headed a group of the airline’s officials the Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Rank and directors on an inspection tour of PAA’s of Commander, at the Foreign Relations Latin American facilties, has been honored by the governments of Colombia, Honduras and Panama for his leadership in developing commercial aviation in Latin America. The Honduran Government decorated Mr. Trippe with the order of the Honduran Air Corps Wing (Ala del Cuerpo) with citation, during the party’s stop at Tegucigalpa. The award was made at a luncheon at the Air Force Officers Club prior to a courtesy call on Dr. Juan Manuel Galvez, President of Honduras, at the Presidential Palace. The Foreign Minister of Panama, Jose $458.50 TO MARCH OF DIMES System General Office employees contributed $458.50 to the 1954 March of Dimes Campaign. This amount, which tops all previous contributions to the fund from the System General Offices, will be used in financing research for a permanent immunity vaccine. The committee wishes to thank everyone for their generous support. An additional vote of thanks goes to the following representatives who solicited their fellow employees for the drive: Eva Foley, Reservations; Marie Lauer, Traffic and Sales; Kitty Flatley, Personnel; Jeanette Mosczynski, IHC; Eileen Mannion, Engineering; Rosemary Heavey, Marie Allen, Jayne McAdam, Virginia Pileggi, and Rose Baluski, of GAO; Kathleen Murphy and Julia Benson, SOS; Mary Carroll, Industrial Relations; Virginia Croghan, of Manager, New York Office; Beverly Kelly, Panagra; Bob Holsgrove, Airlines Terminal; Catherine Maume and Anne Paulson, Chrysler Building, and Mike Perhacs, Building Maintenance. Office in Panama, after a visit with President Remon at the Presidencia. In Colombia, which had made Mr. Trippe a Knight of the Order of Boyaca in 1952, Public Works Minister Santiago Trujillo raised him to the higher rank of Commander in the name of President Rojas Pinilla. The honor was tendered Mr. Trippe during a luncheon at the Bogota Country Club, where Mr. Trippe recalled that he first visited the country with Mrs. Trippe twenty-six years ago in a plane piloted by Col. Charles A. Lindbergh._______ 100 Help Surpass Quota 428,581 points, gathered by close to 100 System General Office employees in New York and Washington, caused the top to blow off on the Cafeteria thermometer. This means that with one month yet remaining, the System General Office has become the first to surpass the unofficial quota established for the Tip/Top contest. Point totals on February 28 were: LAD, 608,457; System General Office, 428,581; AD, 345,651, and PAD, 381,391. (Quotas shown on the LIC thermometer are based on the number of eligible employees in each division and at the System offices.) Bob Karges, SOS-Purchasing, still holds the lead for the Grand Prize trip to Paris and Rome. However, with three weeks remaining until Pirate Tip/Top’s treasure voyage ends, any one of the 100 employees already waiting to share the loot, or any employee who has not yet received any Tip/Top prize points, may very well grab the Grand Prize or at least share in the already bulging treasure chest. With summer just beyond the horizon, teachers and students will be making plans for vacations. Tipping off prospects to the advantages of PAA service could turn the trick. Also, a Tip On Prospects that could reap a harvest of merchandise prizes is that His Holiness, Pope Pius XII, has proclaimed 1954 Marian Year, to honor the 100th anniversary of the Dogma of Immaculate Conception. This means that many church groups will be organizing pilgrimages to the shrines of Europe. An employee who could organize a group, or who could sell the idea of PAA travel to a church group of 25 people would net at least 86,000 points—enough to win a deep freeze AND a 21" TV set, or a host of other prizes. A selling point to remember is that free Clipper passage is available for tour leaders. Employees should remind prospects that Courtesy Cards (or the employee’s own personal card with Department and location added) must be presented and tickets bought before March 31 . . . even if trips are planned for after that date. That way, the employee will be sure to receive credit for every sale . . . and build up those prize-winning points! CLOSE RACE FOR GIRLS/ BOWLING CROWN The Recaps are holding on to a slim two and a half game margin over the second place Atomettes in the Skyline Club-sponsored Girl’s Bowling League at LIC. With some ten weeks to go, anything can happen and the lead may change hands several times before the season ends. Holding high average with 135, is Gerry Stanton, GAO, while Pat Doyle, Reservations, has high game so far of 186. Team Standings: T earn Points Recaps .............................. 71 Atomettes ........................... 68% Farmerettes ......................... 56 Strikettes .......................... 52
