FOR Irish Set For Spring Festival From April 18 Through May 9th »-----—-------- Pocket-Sized New Horizons Issued Soon “An Tostal” is an ancient Gaelic^ phrase signifying “pageant,” “array” or “display.” It became a living phrase again last year, with the broader translation of “Ireland At Home.” The celebration of An Tostal last year established it as a major tourist attraction and it will be repeated this year from April 18 until May 9. At all times, and during all seasons, the visitor to Ireland is assured of a warm welcome. But for the designated period, Ireland will be at its best. During An Tostal, Ireland will be “at home”—at home to her “exiles” and their friends, at home to all Inembers of the Irish race, and at home to everybody who wishes to visit the country when it’s at its best. The two companies, in a joint petition filed with the CAB, requested approval of an equipment interchange agreement to permit through flights over the Delta-C&S route from Chicago and St. Louis to Houston, and thence over Pan American’s route from Houston to Mexico City. Crews would change at Houston, but the airplane would continue on through for the convenience of passengers. The petition requested that the application be granted expeditious treatment, so that the public could be provided with improved service as promptly as possible. Reason for this is Pan American’s participation in CRAF (Civil Reserve Air Fleet), a project of the Department of Defense under which part of PAA’s fleet of aircraft would be used, under emergency conditions, in support of MATS (Military Air Transport Service) in airlift missions. Under CRAF, a number of PAA’s aircraft (together with planes of other commercial operators) would be diverted in a time of emergency, (Continued on Page 2) Pan American Pioneers By Affording Installment Plan For Travel Expense New York To Mexico City Route Sought A direct non-stop air route between New York and Mexico City was asked by Pan American in an application filed with the Civil Aeronautics Board. Pan American asked the Board to consolidate its application with a similar proposal from American Airlines so that both could be considered at the same time. In its application, Pan American made two major points: 1. That grant of such authorization to Pan American would not only speed traffic between Mexico City and New York, but between Mexico City and Europe as well; 2. That in all fairness and also in the interest of the public, Pan American should be allowed la compete for the Mexican market on equal terms with American Airlines and foreign-flag airlines. At present Pan American operates flights between Mexico City ¿and Houston, Texas.
