Haitian Diaspora Oral History Collection Interview with Gérard Campfort Miami, FL, September 13, 2013 Interview ASM0085000043 Interviewed by Lucrèce Louisdhon-Louinis Recorded by Javier Carrion Outline by Lucrèce Louisdhon-Louinis Length: 01:08:17 Interview with Gérard Campfort, an educator, soccer enthusiast, musician, and author. Dr. Campfort was born in Haiti, and after graduating from l'École Normale Supérieure in Port-Au-Prince, he began his teaching career at several universities, including Faculté D'Ethnologie, Collége Canado-Haitien, and Lycée de Pétion-Ville. He then moved to Paris and earned a doctorate in philosophy at the Sorbonne. He then taught at the university and became the president of the Groupment des Étudiants Haitiens á Paris. He was also a great soccer player and coached the Groupment des Étudiants Haitiens á Paris soccer team, for which he was awarded the Trophée du Meilleur Entraineur en France (Best Coach Award) in 1981. Dr. Campfort then moved to the United States where he worked with the Broward County Department of Health and the Broward County Public Library as outreach coordinator for the Haitian community. He was an exceptional musician and radio personality, and also a poet. Dr. Campfort passed away on October 12, 2013.
