When Richard B. Hoit came to Miami in 1914 at the age of 27, he was already an experienced movie and aerial photographer. His collection of photographs covers a diverse landscape of regions, including Massachusetts, Vermont, and Florida. Hoit also traveled extensively in South America in the early 1900s, where he photographed people and scenery in Bolivia, Columbia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. The Richard B. Hoit Collection also contains family photographs dating from 1834 to 1973.
A selection of photographs depicting South Florida scenes has been digitized and is available online.
