As a professional photographer, Cuban-born Asela Torres has documented the performing arts in Miami for over 40 years.  Her work provides a detailed chronicle of the growth and development of Cuban and Hispanic arts in South Florida.

With funding from the Knight Foundation in 2011, the University of Miami Libraries digitized a small selection of Torres’ photographs of theater and music artists, productions, and venues from the 1960s and 1970s as part of a project documenting Cuban theater in Miami during those two decades.  Asela Torres lent these images to the Cuban Heritage Collection with the intention of donating her photography collection in the coming years.
